Basically the title. We always hear about how great Porsche, Honda, etc. are, but what are some brands that don’t get enough love?

My flair will make this biased, but MINI. While their previous generation with the Peugeot engines was indeed shit in a can, the newer models using the BMW B-series engines are very well built and reliable cars, but they all get clumped together because of all the issues the older gen had. A lot of people sleep on, or get scared off from, them as a result but the current gen is a great product and doesn’t deserve its predecessor’s stigma.
Their multitone roofs are really awesome. I wish more manufacturers would offer interesting paint options like that.
Really fun car to drive but I can’t get past the interior. I can see how it appeals to some but it just does not work for me.
I don’t even want to know the true amount of money I’ve had to spend on my R56 :( but damn I love it and it fits all my camping gear
I had an ‘06 r53 Cooper S that I adored. Tried the newer ones and just felt like a lot of the soul had been sucked out of em. I know they’re more reliable and well put-together now, but they’re not as, well, mini (I mean literally not as small which was half the appeal to me) and I miss the supercharger whine. Sounded like a spaceship. Just don’t do it for me anymore. Really bums me out because my chili red hardtop was my favorite car I ever owned.
The old ones still drive really well and they arent as unreliable as people say. The engine is used in the 1 series as well and both citeoens and peugeots. I think the problem is that they are high performance engines and people seem to service them like they where low hp economy cars.
My girlfriends 16 mini S just random starting taking in water from a mysterious hole. Two days and some funky electrical issues later, quote for 5k outside of warranty to rip everything up and still couldn’t guarantee a fix. Disclosed the issues with carvana and they still bought it. I know It’s only anecdotal but I dislike Mini very much.
Countryman?
Nope. 16 mini S with a manual. She absolutely loved it and was very upset to see it go. But bought it for like 21k a year and half before. Sold it for 9k.
Honestly surprised, I worked at a MINI store and while the previous gen had a design flaw in the A pillar drains that caused water retention issues, I can’t say I really saw it with anything newer. Sorry to hear.
It happens. Figured it was pretty crazy odds and maybe only a handful had seen this extreme version of it
This is a great answer because I don’t see many Minis on the road these days. On one hand, they always just seemed kind of expensive, but on the other hand they’re basically just cheap BMWs. So yeah actually a good deal when you think about it. My friend had a previous gen (I think 2009) and had all sorts of issues.
09 was part of the bad period mentioned above. Granted we have a dealer in my area, but there’s quite a few around of the newer product.
