I’ve read many threads on Pelican regarding maintaining my car and I can’t get a straight answer. Please help. The car has 154K miles. Which oil should I use? Some say 10W60. Others say 20w50. What’s the transmission fluid change interval and fluid spec? TIA
What’s it say in your manual?
Most modern porsche taking 0 w 40
If a car engine is really worn, soon say go one grade heavier.
3.2 aircooled right? Climate and use will make a difference. AutoX in Texas and DD in UK are two very different uses.
Porsche Classic makes a specific oil for your car. That’s probably your best bet unless you want to read endless oil threads and discussions that culminate in nothing.
Honestly, just change it often enough and don’t stress about it. Life is too short to spend hours of your life researching oil.
Pelican will definitely steer you in the right direction (pin intended :) ). Did you slog through the ultimate motor oil thread? Search for posts from m.d. Holloway - he’s an expert in industrial lubricants and has been posting great advice there for years.
Good quality 20w50.
That’s it.
I always used Mobil1 in my 1987 Carrera. 10K interval. Can’t remember weight, 10w30 I believe.
Many of the “big name” engine builders on RennList recommend BradPenn (PennGrade) oil so that’s what I use in my air-cooled. I love the sort of green tint to it - it’s like NyQuil. 20w-50 is standard but if you’re in a very cold climate go with a 40. If you have any weeping from your covers expect it to get worse when going to a lighter grade.
