Hey all, since everybody is already wasting their day on the hunt for dead pixels, I have another small request:

Can someone with both the LE and LCD Deck please use their phone’s slo-mo camera to film a second of your screen at 60 Hz and full brightness on each Deck, and say which one has more visible flicker? Typically the flickering is most visible in bright areas on the screen.

There is some light flicker on the LCD version (as on most screens) which doesn’t bother me. It seems to be more pronounced on the non-limited OLED version. BOE is known for higher-frequency screens than Samsung, so I wonder if the LE has an unexpected advantage here.

And whatever panel you have, if have been playing for a while and your eyes feel fine, then please don’t let the PWM paranoia infect you. (Makes it very annoying to buy a new phone…) Thanks so much!

The BOE screen at 90hz is running slightly faster than the Samsung model which may indicate the screen could be driven harder (overclock better?), but given the QC issues, I wouldn’t be so keep on get one. Both OLED screens suffer from PWM but that also mitigates a lot of the motion blur associated with the LCD displays. I’ve no doubt the PWM/flickering will be noticeable at lower refersh rates for sensitive people like myself, but I’d take some flicker over the atrocious LCD G2G response times (up to 10x slower during pixel transitions) on the OG deck or heck, any other LCD based handheld.

ONCE I get my hands on both, I can perform the tests your’re asking about but I suspect you’ll find out the answer before I can compare them directly.
