I pulled over and mounted a kerb outside my house to get something. I was gone about 2mins, but when I came back and started my car, I noticed the clutch pedal was loose and the gear stick was loosely shifting into gears.

Drove for about 30 seconds before the clutch became stuck down to the floor, so I pulled over, and was unable to shift gears from 2nd into anything.

Turned the car off for a few mins, said some prayers, and the car works fine. Drove it for another 20mins to make sure.

I’ve got a few questions. What happened, is it likely to happen again, and how much would a repair cost? My MOT is due next month (19.12.23) and I have ~£500 to spend on repairs if that’s necessary.

It’s a 2013, 63 reg plate Ford Fiesta Titanium X Ecoboost 1L petrol engine if that helps. I know literally nothing about cars so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Fluid could have bypassed the piston in the master cylinder. Most likely culprit since it’s working fine now. Either way you should have it checked out by a professional because it’s gonna happen again.

Just taken it for a test drive. The car shudders when at a low speed when previously, it didn’t. I need to press the clutch in sooner basically.

Also major thing, when the clutch is just before the biting point, it rolls back. Like, I’m in first, take my foot off the break and about to hit the biting point, the car rolls back. This obviously means my hill start assist isn’t working either.

I was unable to move the gearstick whilst the engine was running. I then turned the engine off, left it for 5mins and it moved and everything worked as normal.

I’m going to go for a test drive in a few hours to determine whether or not I can take it to uni tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes.

      Thanks
