The majority are children who know football from playing FIFA and watching a few champions league games every year. Most have never even seen an average footballer.
I agree, but average is a really unhelpful word to use here.
If you’ve only ever watched Champions League level football then your definition of “average” will be very different compared to if you’ve spent your life watching lower league football.
I posted the Lewis McGugan goal, but was a bit hesitant to call him average because he was one of the best players in the Championship at the time.
Whereas OP gave Richarlison (20 goals in 43 appearances for Brazil) as their example of an average player.
Totally, I attend a lot of National League games. The standard is still worlds above anything anyone here could even dream of getting close to.
Yet when we got to the FA Cup third round and played Watford, up close this PL also-ran team were on another planet.
Any of those Watford players (Deeney aside) would be deemed “average” by most people here yet were probably in the top 1% of football pros on the planet.
You guys have mad standards to be calling some of these players bang average.
Yea, an avarage player is not even pro.
Tbf even if you’re just going bang average among professional footballers the argument is still near enough the same.

Yeah fair point I guess

My thoughts exactly. Players with 100+ premier league goals and players who scored in a Champions League Final aren’t ‘average’.
This whole post is stupid. I’ve seen men in their 50s score incredible goals in the park.
And that example OP gave?! Who was Richarlison playing for against Serbia? Must be some “bang average” country, I guess.
