So I’ve been working on my grandfathers 1966 Corvair Corsa I got it running and while I had it off the ground and tires off I wanted to test the transmission/transaxle. So it moves through the gears just fine, but nothing happens it’s like the clutch isn’t engaging like the pedal is being pushed in. It did run and drive before it was parked 20ish years ago.

Thanks for the help.

Did you bleed the clutch slave and master? Are they old? It’s possibly they’re seized. I would check function, fluid, etc.

i wonder if the long skinny input shaft snapped…

its been 40 years since i had a manual transmission corvair trans out… i had a 65 110 automatic in my 71 VW van for decades…

if the clutch is NOT disengaging… NOT RELEASING…

the clutch disc friction surfaces are Rusted to the clutch cover and flywheel iron surfaces… the corvair is NOT a car that you want to put in 4th gear and drive it with the pedal down… you will SNAP the long skinny input shaft. you can try it in high gear … 3rd or 4th depending on which trans you have… since the car has not been driven… jack the rear end up so the wheels are free to spin… place in high gear… start the engine… hold the clutch pedal to the floor… depress the brake pedal slightly… or apply the parking brake slightly… if the rust is light… it may break free… if the rust is heavy… you are going to snap the input shaft…

drop the engine and and trans… separate the engine engine and trans… take the clutch cover off… see if the disc is rusted in place…

sorry… i don’t want you breaking the long input shaft deep in the transaxle.

there are several ways to get the corvair engine/transaxle out without the engine cradle for it… i don’t advise dropping the transaxle without pulling the engine… i tried that decades ago… it was a pain… getting the engine on a furniture dolly and a second one under the transaxle after its out is usually the easy way to separate them…

pulling the corvair engine and transaxle is far easier than pulling the engine and trans from a Countach… https://i.imgur.com/sKrxG5E.jpg yes that was a job i did a few years ago…

the Countach has it hands down over the other rear engine cars… https://i.imgur.com/l73vJ87.jpg

best of luck… you can pm me any questions…
