Does anybody know how you get a key code for a 97 GMC sierra the key is missing and I’d rather get a key cut, then replace ignition and door locks

without registration in your name…
you can remove the door lock. its not that hard.
a lock smith can figure out the combination by examining the wafers and cut a key.
drilling the ignition lock cylinder till it turns to the run position… remove the column shroud… it takes a E-4 Torx Socket not a torx bit to do that… there is a hole on top to use a probe into while you turn the remaining drilled lock cylinder to the cranking position and the lock pops out… replacement locks are available with keys and with a bunch of wafers to allow you to change the combination to fit an existing key… or leave all the parts out and no key is needed…
most parts stores have the door lock cylinders in stock… so coded door lock cylinders (with 2 keys) and an Uncoded ignition lock cylinder that you key up to the new door keys…
