I recently come back from a 3 hour trip. I had no problems with the truck during that time and stopped for gas and food twice. Once I got home, I turned the truck off but then decided I needed to move the truck a little further into my driveway. I went to turn the truck on, but did not start. I got the jump box, turned the key and heard a single “click” and everything turned off. Does anyone know if it’s just a battery problem? The truck did not cut off or turned off the entire road trip only until I got home is when it didn’t want to start back on. I’ll appreciate some advice!
Looks like battery, doubt is alternator problem. Alternator will throw a warning light. Instead of removing battery and send it to get tested rather buy a voltmeter and test battery and alternator yourself, its easy to: How to test battery and alternator.
If battery is dead, charging wont help it.
The battery can be charged once it dies. It needs current first, then you can charge it up to correct voltage.
Could be a few things suggest getting the battery checked first. If the battery is fine then could be the starter motor. Battery is definitely the first step even a basic volt meter would give u a rough guess before throwing money at it
If you get a cheap tester you can watch a video on how to test the battery and the alternator
Test battery. Wack the starter with a hammer or an extension and a hammer. If it starts, get a new starter
Experienced the same with our car. After swapping the battery the same thing happened. It landed up being dirty points (the connectors that connect to the battery). Gave them a clean with a wire brush and wedge a piece of copper between the terminal and the connector to stop it coming loose. All has been well with the world for over a year now (touch wood).
Other comments here are all very good but I’m Just offering a different idea/possibility here; does the car show that it’s in gear or in park? If not, maybe you need to replace the neutral safety switch.
Update! Thanks for the input you all. It turns out, my battery needed to be replaced. The battery was dead and was bulging on the sides. Put a new one on my truck and started right away!
Thank you for coming back with the update 👍
