I need some recommandations for good running RPGs on the steam deck
Final Fantasy 12: Zodiac Age Dragon Quest 11 Dragon’s Dogma
Sea of Stars ✨
Fallout New Vegas modded to oblivion.
CrossCode
Ys VIII
Kingdoms of Amalur, Dragon Quest 11S, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, Final Fantasy 12: Zodiac Age, Bravery Default 2, Chained Echoes, Sea of Stars, Tales of Berseria, Persona 4 and 5 all run flawlessly on the deck and are great games.
Kingdoms of Amalur! Perfect for the deck.
Witcher 2 is top tier on the Deck
Mass Effect legendary edition for sure!
Xcom series if you like turnbased, but it’s rpg lite. 1 and 2 are great but I was honestly pleasantly surprised by chimera squad.
Wasteland 3
Colony Ship
Other cRPGs. Any ARPG. D4 is great on the Deck.
grim dawn
Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the best, but so many games classify as RPGs now a days because it now encompasses so many sub-genres.
Action RPGs, Turn-based RPGs, Isometric RPGs, Open World RPGs, JRPGs, etc.
So what style or sub-genre did you have in mind?
but how well does it run? I remember reading reports around when it launched that it is great at first but then struggles after act 2 or so
BG3 with latest SteamOS 3.5 showing Act 2 and 3.
Has been fixed, that said runs around 24fps to be stable and good looking enough. Which realistically is what you need as the game has no fast pacing actions/combat
I’ve gotten stable 30fps, some dips here and there, with med-high settings throughout the entire game.
What are the good turn-based ones? I miss the Final Fantasy style games from FFX and earlier.
Yakuza Like a Dragon, Octopath, Bravely Default, Dragon Quest, Persona, Divinity, SMT, FF7R (there’s an optional turn based mode)
How is Act 3 running on the Deck now?
Tales of Arise
Any YS
Persona 5
Many really run great. Most JRPGs have low requirements.
I bought Ys Origin for the deck but it was unsupported and I never managed to get it to run
It works - installed on my Deck and I just started it up. You just need to switch to the newest version of Proton GE 8.x.
-
The older Bethesda games
-
Deus Ex Human Revolution
-
Digimon Cyber Sleuth
-
The Witcher 3
-
Trails in the Sky series
-
The Atelier Ryza games
-
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
-
Fable Anniversary Edition
-
Phantasy Star 4
-
Outer Worlds
Deck’s great for turn-based RPGs, so you’ve got loads of great games to use from over decades. Way too many to name.
Fable is awesome but my copy from steam always glitches during a boss fight near the end. I’ve tried several times, even reloaded earlier saves. No luck.

Persona 5 definitely
If you like turn based JRPGs then the Legend of Heroes Trails series is what you want. There are 10 of them in English so far. Trails in the Sky trilogy, the two Crossbell games, Trails of Cold Steel 1 through 4 and Trails into Reverie. Trails in the Sky 1 or Trails of Cold Steel 1 are the best starting points to get into the series. They’re all connected so you don’t want to start with any of the other games really.
Only correct answer
For the life of me could not get GoG Trails in the Sky SC working. No issues with FC. Any tips appreciated :)
FC was a joy on the Deck. I do have a PC but can’t exactly laze on the couch with that.
Raid Shadow Legends
