Forget drawing the correct line or drawing one at all. I think the bumbling idiots at the PGMOL dictatorship are not competent enough to determine the correct instance the ball leaves the foot. And by that, I mean the last frame that shows the touch for the pass. I don’t think they’re doing that correctly either.

Think about this, if the review video is 60 fps (likely is 24 fps retrograde potato tech knowing the lot of them), if they use the instance that is 4 frames removed from the last instance of the touch of the ball, they are basically giving the attacker 4/60 = 1/15th of a second.

When you’re running fast, this type of margin can easily play you onside or offside. The margins are hairline thin. How easy it is for someone to make sure to use the exact frame that shows them onside regardless of if the ball is released at that very instant or later if they’re corrupt. Just think about it.

Jesus wept. This whole post is why grassroots is struggling to recruit and retain referees.

I genuinely would be surprised if there’s a referee strike in the next couple of years.

I think the future of the Premier League is in good hands, even with the new teams. I’m a big fan of the way the top six teams are competing and there’s some exciting new prospects in smaller teams as well.

As a fellow Arsenal fan that has also officiated 17, years…

You sir need to sign up to be a referee and take a job at PGMOL.

You’re the kind of person that thinks they could make it from grassroots refereeing to the EPL in three years but you’d never get assigned to a match above the U13s thinking that officiating is a simple task for bumbling idiots.

Personally not for me. Just like a lot of things, even playing pro footie.

I think we need reform. Pay them more so they don’t have to whore around and go to other leagues for real money. Pay them £30-40k per week or even more based on performance. At the same time it should be cut throat. Good pathway to move up the ladder from the U system. Also easy to get fired for repeated incompetence like any other job. Only way to get fired is to sack yourself otherwise a suspension for show.

I wish for the day I don’t know any of their names.

Why would a raise stop them from officiating outside games? Do you think those couple refs that officiated in UAE took the job because they fell on hard times?

It would mean that the top refereeing talent from other countries would come to the Prem. Money is the only reason why the best players are here.

Money is the only reason why the best players are here.

It’s also the exact reason a higher wage would not stop PL refs from officiating elsewhere on the side.

I disagree. How many players have their well-paid Premier league contract and play for another club “on the side” at the same time?

Do you have any example goals where you believe the VAR decision was incorrect due to the wrong frame being used? This would be an interesting point if there were some evidence.

The year is 2034 and Arsenal fans are still ranting about a goal given against them and still have not learnt the meaning of dictatorship.

£50 billion product ruined by £2 refereeing. All I hear is ooo Arsenal fan. He must be sour. Talk about the post or go away. Arsenal fan bad so let’s not have consistency and decisions that don’t take 5 minutes.

You are absolutely right that it is nigh on impossible to pinpoint the exact moment the ball is played.

In which case, isn’t it great that we have VAR? We can freeze it down to within a fraction of a second - beforehand we relied on the lineman potentially 50 yards away being able to look in two places at once.

The fact that football fans have been reduced to this is sad. Rather than talking about tactics or the human element of the game itself, I’m seeing post after post about VAR, rules and regulations.

    It’s fucking boring.

Put VAR in the bin. It’s the only way to stop this madness.

Sport is the closest thing to a meritocracy we will ever see in our lives. Nothing else in society will ever come close. It is worth it to scrutinize and ask questions. Especially if watching it is the highlight of your week and you feel that strongly.

There have literally been several videos posted on reddit recently, where you see them scrub back and forward in the video to identify point of contact.

The problem you’ll run into, is that you can increase the frame rate infinitely, and you’ll never be able to deduce the exact moment of contact.

Unless we decide to equip VAR with an electron microscope.

lol we don’t have to go that far… as long as they have enough camera sensors from different angles, you can project it in 3d and go from there, kinda like what UEFA does

    Best advice you’ll ever get…

    1. Do all your own research and come up with a full proof can’t fail list of stocks to invest in.
    2. Call me and ask what I would do.
    3. Do the exact opposite of what I would do.
    4. Sit back and get rich I am the Uno reverse Midas touch of stocks.
