In this post, let’s discuss the root causes and factors of the weakness of the German national team, and enjoy the journey to Germany’s return to power.

First of all, it is my personal opinion that defense is the most important thing in modern football.

Therefore, although it has been pointed out that the German national team lacks forwards and strikers and has a low scoring ability, this is a problem, but I disagree.

As is clear from today’s match against Turkey, the German national team loses games by conceding more goals than the team’s scoring ability.

Argentina’s strength in winning the Qatar World Cup.

And the reason for the strength of Argentina, which is ranked 1st in the World Cup 2026 qualifying.

This is due to their high defensive strength, as Argentina concedes very few goals.

The only time we conceded was two goals against Uruguay.

This is tied for best among CONMEBOL World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

Currently, there is not a single decent defender among German football players.

Therefore, in order for the German national team to make a comeback, it is urgently necessary to develop defenders.

The German national team will continue to lose in official games until they improve their collapsing defense.

Big countries sometimes have shit generations, nothing more than that.

I think it was Lineker who said “when Germany fall off, it’s usually onto a trampoline.”

Is it just me or did the generation after the main 2014 winners retired not pick up the slack for whatever reason?

That 2014 team was solid and so full of leaders and personality. As a Chelsea fan. Havertz and Werner…. Meh. Rudiger is a great locker room presence but he doesn’t have that same imperious vibe as a Neuer, Lamn, Schweinsteiger and Klose.

Germany will be back though. I’m sure. Imagine someone growing to be the next big striker for Germany and their childhood hero is Kane? That would be interesting

International football as a whole isn’t what it used to be. When I was growing up it was stronger than club football. Not now. Shown with too many big national struggling. Poor Germany team who didn’t have a real recognised striker at last WC, average dutch. Italy never qualify for anything. Brazil haven’t won WC since 2002. French still strong & Argentina (while Messi is still around) Champions league club is stronger by far imo.

Usually, it happens with host countries leading up to a tournament. They haven’t really played a competitive game for 2 or more years.

Large chunk of the problem is (imo) that everyone still thinks that we are absolutely great and had a rough time with “accidents”. Players Like Schlotterbeck, Havertz, Kimmich and Werner aren’t top tier, but they think they are.

After winning 2014 we abondoned core strengths. We thought we are going to dominate the tournaments with strong possession play like Spain did before.

Nope. None of that, new plan pls.

The German FA and the coaching squad banked on the idea that the German national team would remain strong under the same conditions that allowed them to win the WC. Instead, the older players became older and the newer players aren’t properly integrated. The squad just isn’t as dynamic as it could be.

Italy is going through a similar thing.

    stopped producing good players?

they mass produced quality midfielders in 2005-2015

    Ballack, Gotze, Kroos, Schurrle, Ozil

what good midfielder do they have NOW?

at least their attack looks good

I have two causes, one that it’s the perceived cause, and other that it’s the actual cause:

Perceived: The natural decline of a golden generation that started on 2006, so almost 20 years ago, where the replacements are not up to the same standards.

You had Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Kroos, Klose, plus Neuer, Hummels, Boateng and Muller in their prime. Moreover, you had a mid generation that contributed to their WC win but disappeared after (Gotze and Schurlle).

Now you have players like Werner, Rudiger, that are not bad, but not even close to those mentioned, and shits like Havertz, that it isn’t even a football player.

Actual: Pep Guardiola, and the Guardiolization of Bayern, which tends to produce or absorb most of Germany’s young talent, which reflected in Germany style of play, and in the players of the new generation.
