Sad original deck tears
I will forever be triggered that the 1200p screen is called Deck HD and not Deck FHD. The standard 800p screen of the Steam Deck is already considered “high definition”.
It kills me. I’m happy to hear someone else is upset by this lol
Yeah but personally, I think we should retire calling 720p HD anymore. I know it’s just a name and thus doesn’t need to strictly be true, but in today’s day an age, it’s rare to consume sub-720p content, so it’s not really high definition at all. It’s the new basic minimum.
Names for resolutions are stupid anyway. We should just use numbers. I’ll accept a name for the ratio so you don’t have to give both numbers, since it could get unwieldy otherwise (you’d have to specify both dimensions) and there are only two or three common ones anyway.
DeckHD is still 1200p, don’t think anyone who installed one is regretting their purchase much.
Paying and wasting your time to not only get worse performance but worse battery life as well. On top of that, don’t you have to update the bios or something with every update? DeckHD isn’t even close to the OLED, and I personally wouldn’t bother with it on an LCD model.
I mean it is not so much about those who already purchased DeckHD but about those who will not (even if it has 1200p neglecting all the disadvantages).
TBH if I just bought one, like, within the last month or two, I would be quite upset since there is now a 90Hz OLED screen variant with better battery, which would roughly cost around the same as a SD + the Deck HD.
The only reason I don’t want one IS 1200p.
That’s 20 to 30% performance loss.
I would have bought a 800p version…
Meanwhile, Deck LCD was left in a parking lot somewhere
I hope they do ok. Aftermarket upgrade companies deserve our respect, it’s a sign of how awesome the deck ecosystem is that they could even exist.
I think they’ll be fine. Sure the OLED deck is all the new rage, but there’s still an army of LCD models out there waiting to be upgraded
As I only ever played/ing one 2d game on my SD, (Binding of Isaac 600+ hours) I really don’t care about OLED.
It’s not even close, OLED just adds a different depth to an image that LCD simply cannot match.
Well the resolution is still an advantage for the Deck HD. Personally the biggest issue for me that prevents me from upgrading my own OG Steam Deck is that you have to flash the firmware to use the Deck HD, not that SD OLED came out.
Deck HD
Why it is referred to as HD and not like OG or LCD?I figured it out… it’s a physical display upgrade package.
nah, they are about to get business from a bunch of people that don’t want to buy the OLED
They should make a decent 800p ips hdr display. For people that don’t like OLED.
