my 2002 Honda Accord’s brakes gave out yesterday and there’re so many problems with it already so I figured I’d just upgrade. I have a budget of 5,000 (broke college student) 😔 what’s a reliable car that isn’t ugly lol.
Fix your current car. You said yourself that you’re broke. How is taking on huge debt for a newer vehicle going to fix your problem?
Fix the accord. Probably the brake lines rusted out at that age. You won’t find anything good for $5k. Spend the money and it will last another 5-10 yrs

Tell us more. What gave out? What else is wrong?
Most Hondas or Toyota in that price range will serve you best. The term Kaizen is appropriate here. It’s the reason their cars last so song. They use the same switches with minor refinements over the decades but still reliable and improved over time.
There’s another term they have that escapes me but it’s along the lines of monotunikin.
It means they use the same 4.0 motor in the Tacoma/4Runner for 20’years with simple advancements/improvements over that time.
Ford seems to have a new shit motor every year and then the techs can’t fix em because they are all so new.
They have to get engineers involved which gate keeps techs from going out on their own. My $.02
Another accord or a civic.
Problem is if you’re getting a car for that price you’re probably gonna need to change tires, brake pads and other little stuff that’ll add up
Not at all true
Just depends on the car. I just bought a used car that had rotors, pads, and tires changed 500miles before my purchase, but another I was looking at was going to need all of them.
Honda Fit. Because reliable, efficient, and utilitarian is what a college student needs.
Unless it’s over 250k miles or totally rotted to shit I’d strongly strongly reccomend fixing what you’ve got. I’m driving a 09 pontiac g6 gt 3.5l v6 90k miles and I’d be willing to trade you for it. Honda and Toyotas reliability cannot be beaten and you already own a Honda… I’d be happy to help you discuss what’s going on and how to go about getting your current car fixed up. Dm me
Honda Fit
You can buy my Yaris if you’re in New England 120k miles
With the car prices these days it’s gonna be hard to get a significantly better car for $5k.
There is a good chance the “new” car will need the same $2k to fix up as your Accord would.
Fix the accord
Get another accord
Friend of mine scored Lexus GX470(early 2000s) for 4 G.
I’d invest in another Honda, or a Toyota. For maximum reliability , fuel efficiency and cheap maintenance, those are typically you’re safest options.
