It took awhile for mine, too. She took to my wife instantly, but nowadays if we’re both sitting in the couch the cat will come lay on my lap instead of my wife’s.
I sometimes watch my neighbor’s cat when they leave, grumpy old man cat. With me he was always around and sometimes playful (especially with the zoomies,).
With my neighbor, he’s maybe next to, but never outright cuddling. (His kids, occasionally.) I was watching my niece when they had an emergency so I had both.
It took all of five minutes for the grumpy old man cat to practically latch on. They were inseparable through the entire night.
(Edit: I think the cat was keyed to his family’s stress and scared/stressed himself - their parent/grandparent had a medical scare and they drove out of state to be there; and the kid is one of those and will happily love on any animal she can…. For as long as she can…)
