All that’s needed is this “we’ve checked the on field decision and we believe it’s worth you having a look from another angle”.
It’s not making the ref look bad, it’s just about giving the referee some more tools. It took one view on a mobile on the ground to see it wasn’t clearcut and worthy of a look from the replays.
Or, bin VAR off entirely and just run the game with the on field decision only.
