I was recently doing a referee course where one of the referee training officers was talking about losing control of games due to brawls. And he brought up the battle of stamford bridge where Tottenham drew to Chelsea in 2015 causing Tottenham to lose the tile race, and then he said “ mark clattenburg one of the better english refs in this country lost control of that game”.
And that statement surprised me because i always heard that clattenburg was a bad ref. So i ask what are or were the best english refs if with even have any that is?
Howard Webb got the 2010 World Cup final. It was a very contentious game with a litany of bad tackles. Some people tried to say he did a bad job, but if anything his failing was that he was too lenient, trying to keep it a football game.
It was English ref, Jack Taylor, in 1974 final too. Gave the first ever, and second ever, penalty in a final.
