Have you ever managed a project as large as this? I think we can give him some leeway here. If you invite people to help on your project that is worth quadrillions, but is open-source, you have to be hardened enough. And Linus is just a well rounded person who doesn’t play politics, that’s what I learned from 30 years following that dude. Er war in so gut wie allen Spitzenpositionen bei der SPD involviert, am Ende hat er sich den Seeheimer Niedergang mit einem Posten als Außenminister vergoldet, vermutlich in der Hoffnung auf ein Präsidenten-Amt, ob seiner unbegrenzten Weisheit. Das Ergebnis sehen wir nicht in Umfragen, sondern Wahlmisserfolgen: die SPD ist dank solch einer überzeugenden Führungskraft, in Deutschland gerne Elite tituliert, nur noch unter “Sonstige” zu finden. Aber immer wieder gut von Erfolgsmenschen zu hören, aus dem off sozusagen.

Ich habe meinen Wehrdienst 2001/2002 gemacht, ich glaube wir waren der vorletzte Jahrgang bevor das eingetütet wurde. Bei uns war es genau umgekehrt: wir haben den letzten Schrott bekommen der noch in irgend welchen Kammern gefunden wurde. Wir hatten z.B. noch das uralte G3 oder Rucksäcke aus der Nachkriegszeit. Aber wir waren auch nur Gebirgssanis…Informationstechnikbatallon hört sich schon moderner an, die kriegen hoffentlich Equipment das nicht aus den 80er kommt.

That was me in 2001 during basic training (one of the last conscripts in Germany). Wen we marched to the firing range I had to wear a blinky light right on my helmet. It was embarrassing, but so is the whole service if you are not really into that stuff.

I remember a dish from my childhood with cooked Kohlrabi, I think it was some kind of stew with meat and potatoes. They are pretty good cooked, but I prefer them raw as well. Fresh from the garden - nothing better. Maybe garden radish.

Wenn da ein Wäldchen ist haben die vermutlich so gut wie alles, aber sauberes Wasser finden die immer gut. Die Wasserstelle sollte nicht zu tief sein, dann wird sie auch zum baden benutzt. Aber wichtig ist die jeden Tag zu kontrollieren und zu säubern. Und wenn’s ums beobachten/fotografireren/zählen geht hilft natürlich eine Futterstelle, am besten mit Eichhörnchen-Schutz. Auch hier ist Hygiene sehr wichtig. Aber dann ist es ein echter Spaß wenn man im Wohnzimmer sitzt und das Getummel auf dem Balkon beobachten kann. Ich hab mir dafür allein sogar extra eine Fotoausrüstung zugelegt und bin dann beim NABU gelandet…wegen ein paar Spatzen und Meisen auf meinem Balkon.

Edit: Wenn du ein Insektenhotel auf dem Balkon hast solltest du das mit etwas Gartenzaun absichern damit die Meisen da nicht dran kommen. Die naschen sonst im Frühjahr fast alle Bienen weg…

I ask myself for quite some time now: where are Americas young people? In most countries, if something goes as wrong as in America at the moment, the first who respond with protests are the students. Just check out India. But in the US there are only a few local protest about the middle east. No mass protests, not even discussions as far as I can tell. Why is that?
