One reason we can’t have small pickups anymore is because your authoritarian government has fuel economy standards called “Corporate Average Fuel Economy” (CAFE) which puts mpg limits on all vehicles sold based on wheelbase and track width. I couldn’t readily find the graph, but the limits for smaller cars & trucks was way more strict than for larger vehicles.
