  • The invisibility helps in avoiding enemies. Walk away twice from a mob that’s spotted you and they’ll lose sight of you. Every time that you back away from a mob, while you’re in the garden, you can make a sneak attack, so it’s easy to kill enemies there.

With the huntress and her bow, ideally you want to bow down enemies before they reach the garden. Without a wand of warding, I just pass turns while keeping an eye on the doors in the adjoining room. A door that suddenly opens may indicate an mob entering the room and ready to be shot at. I’ll start shooting once I think they’ve reached my line of fire and if there’s no hit after a few shots, it could be that a mob spawned in the room and was exiting instead.

For other classes, resting in the garden may be a detriment. The time spent holing up in a garden could’ve been used to explore; potentially finding useful items. It’s rare that I eat and heal in the garden with the other classes.

  • I’d always pick the wand of regrowth over any other wand. It’s the most useful in my opinion. But I do play with a few challenges so that probably skews my choice. If there’s a wand that could do with a slight nerf perhaps, I think it’s regrowth.

Prismatic is useful for finding hidden rooms and somewhat high up on my list. And I would also generally take magic missile over warding.

  • I thought there was guaranteed to be 2 strength potions before each boss; so there could be one on 3 and 4 and none on the first two. Perhaps that may be outdated info.

Usually I don’t drink random potions unless it looks like I’ll die if I don’t quaff an unidentified healing potion promptly. Hate to unknowingly drink an XP or healing potion.

I tend to use intuition stones to confirm upgrade scrolls as some runs sorely lack remove curse scrolls, particularly in the beginning, and I don’t want to accidentally waste those either. With the Forbidden Runes challenge, there’s only 2 upgrade scrolls before Goo so it’s more straightforward.

I typically ID potions by brewing 3 of the same seed.

  • For me, since I have a couple of challenges enabled, the warrior seal, which can carry over a single +1 armor upgrade, as well as an enchantment once you get the talent, provide more consistent win rates for the warrior than the duelist. The extra armor especially helps in the early game.

Beating the game is not a sprint but a marathon that requires endurance. The best offense is a good defense and it’s particularly true here. You’re better off prioritizing having enough armor before you invest in your weapon. I play with reduced scrolls of upgrade but I’ll prioritize having +7 scale or plate armor before DM-300. In some cases I’ll spend a scroll or two on leather or scale armor to ensure I don’t lose a run. That’s at the cost of upgrading my weapon later. You can beat the game with a +2 or +3 weapon but it will be harder if you have poor armor.

The shops will always have at least one scroll of identify, remove curse, and magic map. If I don’t have a stone of intuition on hand, I like to convert a scroll of identify to 2 intuition so I can find out which is the remove curse. If there’s a few other scrolls at the shop, you can end up using more than one scroll’s worth of intuition stones but generally you’re conserving cost. I typically employ intuition for identitying which is a potion of strength and which are upgrade scrolls in the early game. As well as which potions are which for rooms that require specific ones. I generally try to use the stones sparingly as resources van be sparse in the early game.

  • You can use the sentry to block attacks toward you; by putting one directly in the line of fire. They can also delay mob movement towards you if you already have the mob’s agro. A sentry can also set off traps, as well as pass through enemies; like a corrosive gas trap behind a mob; that you wouldn’t be able to set off with an item in your inventory.

With a bunch of challenges enabled, particularly Into the Darkness, or just on dark levels, the increased sight and scouting provided is quite helpful.

As the huntress, sometimes I like to camp in a garden to heal, level up a bit, and stomp grass with Rejuvenating Steps. Again, a sentry gives me scouting, so I don’t have to watch the doors to the adjoining room as closely for enemies to bow down from within the garden.

If given a choice, I would typically pick any other wand over warding but it is versatile and I think is underutilize.

  • That was one of many factors that I think the invocation was necessary. Th residents, as well as affected businesses, in Ottawa were left to fend for themselves as leadership(including the police) could not end the occupation of the downtown core. There were multiple blockades of varying degrees that were also problematic. What came out of the Coutts blockade was worrisome to say the least. The one at the Ambassador Bridge was cleared but who knew if people would come back or setup elsewhere. No one knew how things would play out at the time but there was a lot of concern across Canada. Even by the judge’s admission, he may have advised the same conclusion the government decided on.

At the end of the day I agree with the public inquiry that didn’t find it unreasonable and perhaps revisions to the Emergencies Act is something to consider.

  • The second interview of a CBC piece answered some similar questions I had. This ruling provides precedence and can stop a future invocation of the Emergencies Act in its tracks through an injunction from the Federal Court of Appeal, if it’s granted.

The government is appealing the decision because they believe the invocation was reasonable and justified. The Liberals are currently behind in the polls, so politically it’s within the government’s interest to appeal this. The act itself is decades old and never invoked prior to this so both the civil liberty groups and the government are probably keen on getting clarification on the legal usage of the act from the Supreme Court of Canada.

Personally, I fully support the usage of the act. What I found unreasonable was the lack of accountability with the provincial police.
