It’s $400 before tax with no SSD or RAM, so I’d need to get SSD, RAM and HDDs. What’s your thoughts on the specs at that cost? As the other comments point out, its an AM4, so it might make more sense to build something instead!

That’s actually a good call. Does it make more sense for me to look for a AM5 system and future proof with DDR5?
Thanks for the heads up…
Most of the videos I’ve seen online are using Proxmox which is my goal. Just trying to decide if $400 before tax without any memory or storage is a good deal or if I should just build a box.
Thanks for the heads up, my Mini’s NIC is totally F’d so I’m using a USB adapter, I’d like to avoid having to do that again, but the WTR Pro does have 2 RJ45 Ethernet ports which is better than the Mini has.
Good call and good to hear you’ve not heard anything bad about the brand. Going to use it as a NAS, few VMs (Debian with Docker and NixOS dev env) and a Plex LXC (might move to Docker), but I aim to move my PiHole to it and want to try more distros in test environments. Biggest reason for an upgrade is the potential to transcode more content, the Mini struggles (fine on Direct Play) and also the NIC is flakey so it’s using a USB adapter right now. I probably borked it replacing the HDD with a SSD, it was a nightmare to open. Not sure if I’m ready to pull the trigger, but if my hardware died, I’d maybe go this route!
Wholeheartedly agree with everyone else on the email. I’ve worked IT in a range of different sized businesses. The hardest one to date was the super paranoid place that insisted on hosting email. It’s an absolute pain to maintain and can be an unnecessary security risk for a few bucks!
I used to be a big Destiny 2 player, but my friends (UK) and I (US) could never line up timezones for raids etc. so I used to just solo patrols and got bored with the rarity grind. I did hear the last expansion was excellent but also fuck Bungie for greedy practices. I was excited for Marathon, but that’s dropped a little.
Yeah this might be the direction I go, I have Titanfall 2 on Steam and played a little on the Deck and enjoyed the movement. Any suggestions as a N00B and any things to avoid?
Thanks for the suggestion, I saw DRG pop up a bunch during the Helldivers 2 drama. Is it only PVE? I’ll have a look at it.
This was the “oh shit” hype moment for me, as well as Yotei obviously. When I moved to the US all I had was my red PSP while I slept on a couch at my mom and grandma’s place in middle of nowhere Tennessee. I knew nothing about this games past, but I needed an escape at the time, decided to spring for Lunar Silver Star Harmony. I fell in love with this game, the music and anime cut scenes. Very excited to play it again on my TV and also try the sequel. Although I need to get mentally prepared for all the Nall dialogue!
If I had more physical GB/GBA carts I’d pull the trigger. But while I have a Steam Deck and plenty of other devices with good emulation, I can’t justify $250+ for a device to play retro games!
Quick personal note on the U4T’s, after about a year, I’ve had multiple fail on me, they’ll require multiple taps to work. I’m going to look for a new tactile switch soon.
Nice
Thank you! This is super helpful to know, I’ve got “Wait!” on, it’s the knowing “who can do what when” that I’m not in the “flow” of yet, but I’m sure it’ll click soon.
I’ve avoided guides outside of getting stuck (didn’t see the Arris Dome ladder and had to look it up) and I’d like to keep it that way outside of unlocking some cool weapons/items later.
Any recommendations on when I should focus on grinding and what special mid/late game items I should look up guides for? I’m about to go to Site 32 and can’t decide if I should be grinding much or just pushing through with the story. Good call on the chests, but I doubt I’ll be able to stay on top of remembering that!
DAMN, hella amazing memories you are sharing! Also wanted to give Earthbound a go as well.
Don’t know yet, probably gonna see how this run goes. I’m hoping it sinks its teeth into me and I want to play multiple runs!
Dope! I didn’t even think of that! Thank you
First time playing Chrono Trigger, on Steam Deck (Steam version not emulated, I know! I know!). I’m enjoying it although I’m suffering from early RPG slowness and trying to push through. Hoping the Steam version holds out, seems like every update of Proton is nerve wracking. Love the music and art style. I do feel like I lose doors or POIs easily and I need to get better/quicker with the battle UI.
Gonna be following this posts comments for some tips! I’m running Proxmox on an old 2012 Mac Mini which I’ve Frankenstein’d with an SSD and RAM as much as I can, the NIC is dead and I’ve resorted to USB Ethernet. I’ve not messed with exposing my server externally, I’m intrigued but also have a router with OVPN VPN network capability. I use a LXC for Plex (Debian) and a VM (Debian again) with Docker installed. Docker runs Haugene (look it up for VPN torrents), Screeps server and WikiJS. I have a Raspberry Pi 3B running PiHole, might set it up as a backup and use the Proxmox server as the primary. But I’m definitely ready for new hardware soon and I’d like to look into NAS storage, right now I’m using a rather sketch 4TB external USB drive for media (shit I don’t care about).
Ditto! I run an old server, but would be willing to upgrade and self host a service instead of paying this ass hat any more money!
