I am also interested in some feedback on hosting it. I tried hosting Pixelfed a while ago, and while I got it to run, it was honestly quite annoying with lots of papercuts, so I retired it again shortly after.

But that has nothing to do with the size of an instance of community. Rather the opposite is the case: an instance admin might decide to silence an community or instance because it is too big/busy and drowns out all the posts from smaller instances.

Or a very practical example: those Reddit and RSS repost instances. We had to defederate them because they were drowning out all organic posts and discussions. I would have rather liked to silence them though as people might want to stay subscribed to them without bothering other people on the same instance by having them pollute the federated feed.

On Mastodon it is also commonly used to temporarily silence an instance that is being abused for spam. This is much better than to defederate, as it still allows people to continue communicating with legitimate users on that instance.

Naja im Falle von Ungarn lag es aber auch daran das die deutsche Industrie dort viel hin geoutsourced hat wegen billiger Arbeitskräfte usw. und daher die deutsche Regierung jegliche versuche die aus der EU zu schmeißen torpediert hat.

Der Unterschied zwischen der EU und vergleichbar großen Machtblöcken liegt in der Freiwilligkeit und das die EU nicht einfach über die Köpfe einzelner Mitgliedstaaten hinwegregieren kann. Das ist ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal und erklärt ihre Popularität vor allem in Osteuropa.

Die EU hat auch Mindestanforderungen was Demokratie und Rechtsstaat angeht. Das widerum heißt das wenn ein solcher demokratischer Staat ernsthafte Bedenken hat und ein Veto einlegt dann sollten das die anderen Mitgliedstaaten auch ernst nehmen.

Auf der anderen Seite wenn ein Mitgliedstaat diese Mindestanforderungen nicht erfüllt und/oder über einen längeren Zeitraum eklatante Meinungsverschiedenheiten mit dem überwiegenden Rest der Mitgliedstaaten hat, dann hat dieser einfach nichts in der EU zu suchen und sollte Ausgeschlossen werden. Und wenn sich dieses substatiell ändert dann kann auch immer wieder eine Neuaufnahme diskutiert werden.

Die EU ist ein supranationaler Koordinierungsmechanismus der ohne das Einstimmigkeitsprinzip so nie entstanden wäre.

Klar kann das manchmal unbequem sein, aber ohne das würde die EU vermutlich recht schnell zerfallen.

Wenn es wirklich Mitglieder gibt die langfristig wichtige Projekte blockieren, dann ist die richtige Lösung diese von der EU auszuschließen und nicht einfach wichtige Grundsätze abzuschaffen.
