4. I can recommend VSCodium. It is based on the open-sourced code of VSCode. On many distros you will find it in the default repositories.

You say that you want to do this for “privacy” and “security” reasons. Those two are not the same. What is the exact use-case which you want to prevent?

Disabling WebSockets will cause some Websites not to work properly anymore. Especially such which rely on live updates without reloading the site (most common use-case for WebSockets).

Imo debloating the apps itself is not possible. To do that, you would need to somehow decomplie them, change the code, repackage them and install them as custom applications. This might be possible in theory, but is not feasible in a real-world scenario.

I recommend the following two options:

1. Use different clients where possible. For youtube F-Droid has some alternatives. For reddit I don’t know the current status.
2. Use a VPN based solution such as AdAway. It can block requests based on target IP or Domain. But keep in mind that blocking certain requests can prevent the app from working.

Its probably worth mentioning that some of those (like the sun cross) are also used as neo-nazi insignia. I am completely in favour of still using them (we shouldn’t let nazis spoil century old symbols), but I felt it was important to note.

For switzerland the “stem” type probably only applies to farmers nowadays. The others live in a more nuclear family. 100 years ago the graphic might have been applicable ;)

If I understand this correctly, it only affects certificates issued by public CAs (certificates for public websites, for example). So for certs issued by a company CA (e.g. for internal infrastructure), it should not apply. Can anyone confirm?

If privacy is your concern, then I’d use two different mail addresses / domains. One with your “professional” TLD (mail@johndoe.com) and one wirh your privacy focussed TLD (mail@anon.com).

I just checked the spotify listener count for some of the more popular bands. Looks like metallica still has about 27 million monthly listeners, so I would say they still dominate the industry, even if you could consider them being one of “yesterdays titans”.

Newer ones might be Papa Roach (1993) with 13m listeners, or FFDP (2005) with 7m listeners.

So all in all i would say that the older bands do still have quite a lot of influence and listeners. Maybe metal is a difficult genre for newcomers?
