Here’s a stat for you: Manchester United are currently the 6th best placed team in the entire country. You can argue that we’ve spent too much, and “should” be higher, or that you don’t think we have much scope to improve on 6th. I’d probably agree with you on all 3 counts.
But if you start describing that as “terrible”, people are going to come out and argue with you. Only 5 teams have been better this year!
And because you don’t seem to be capable of reviewing the surface level facts, people will try to present something more nuanced, with more interpretation included for you. And because you’re on a text-based medium, and making video breakdowns is hard, those arguments are quite likely to include some statistics.
It’s got very little to do with anyone’s understanding of football, or stats. It’s just people pointing out that you’re acting like an entitled moron over a team that 90% of fans would love to cheer for.
I wrote a big thing saying that OP was wrong, but for the sake of balance: This is also incredibly true. I just don’t think it explains the behaviour that OP was pointing to.
