Workers are the average Canadian. I wish we’d get that perspective more
Kinda proves the NDP are the only option for a pro-worker government. The Liberals won’t save us.
They could, but the railway companies would legally be allowed to fire and replace striking employees.
This isn’t a “too many new students problem”. This is a “consistent lack of funding from the provincial government” problem. Until people realize that and change their voting habits, nothing will change…
The government could just as easily make CNR and CPKR give into worker demands through forced arbitration. Either that, or they need to nationalize the railway companies… which we should have done long ago
A much better article on the topic and contains perspectives: https://livewirecalgary.com/2024/04/02/recovery-alberta-to-take-charge-of-mental-health-services-in-alberta/
What I can grasp is that the recovery model doesn’t focus on “wrap-around care”. You can lock someone in a room until their withdrawals pass, but if you don’t address the root issues (usually poverty or lack of mental illness support) of why they started to begin with, the cycle will just repeat.
I don’t disagree with your take on the article, but the “recovery model” is widely criticized by healthcare professionals.
This is so weird…
The Google payments were never guaranteed for Mozilla. If they didn’t have a backup plan in place to reduce spending, that’s on them. Let Mozilla return to its garage opensource roots.
The “negotiating table” is CN giving what workers are asking for, that’s what unions are for. Binding arbitration is a slap in the face to Canadian workers
Slavery is okay as long as it’s on a farm I guess
Why don’t we require schools to build sufficient student housing before they increase student numbers? Seems irresponsible on the school’s part
Interesting! I’ve never been myself, but might check it out this year
The Flames likely threatened to leave, but I think most people would have liked council to stand their ground and not give into billion dollar blackmail.

It’s been a shit show for sure, but we do need this line for the future of Calgary. More-so than the new arena.
I feel like immigrant services funding should be tied to the immigration numbers and inflation. This doesn’t make sense
Street festival specifically :)
I suggest you look up how many billions the federal government has given to EV battery plants in Canada
