That was never a “serious” question in that sense. It’s just a philosophical paradox.
The real answer is that you need to look at the ancestry tree. There wasn’t a moment that a chicken popped up, it was a gradual evolution between an ancestor and until a point that we decided “yup, that’s a chicken”.

Thanks for the explanation mate, that makes a lot more sense.
I’m portuguese and I always thought that veado was the word, just that “e” was “stressed” to sound like “i”. I didn’t know until today that there were actually two words

Me: There’s no way that’s true
Me, after web searching: Huh…
Context: They have a betting game called “Jogo do bicho” (Animal game, direct translation). Number 24 corresponds to deer, which is “veado” in portuguese - which is very similar to"viado", which is a slur for gay people persons.
I still doubt these candles are popular though.

Now why would he need help with a war that he won 11 times already?

CARALHO!!!
Translation: Install Nyarch Linux

Kind of, I could think of a few examples in english:
outlook : look out
Overlook : look over
Overtake : Takeover
Upkeep : Keep up
There might be others that I can’t remember right now. I don’t know if for you most of these are cheating since they become two words instead of just being one.
In Portuguese, I really can’t remember any examples

I’ve been in fediverse since API debacle, I feel the same vibes as I do on Reddit, both the good parts and bad.
For example, same controversies on Reddit also exist here, and have the same talking points and flamewar nature. I had an opinion about Pitbulls (that an owner should be far more responsible than the average owner - I know, controversial take), which got me banned from that sub and several other furry related subs. Which is something that also happens on Reddit when you tick off a moderator of several subs
So for the most part, I’m just a lurker that comes here to get some memes. Sometimes I share my opinion if I feel like it. But I don’t necessarily feel that it’s an upgrade from Reddit in terms of communities.
I never met an american tourist, but I don’t think this question makes a lot of sense because both Europe and the EU have a lot of countries with different cultures. For example, here in Portugal we have the preconception that people in the north (germany, sweden, denmark, etc) are very quiet and mind their own business. So an american tourist would be loud compared to whose standards? Ours? The Germans? Etc
Now, what I heard a lot from many different people, both in real life and on the internet, is that american tourists tend to have a “self importance” air about them. A friend told me a story that an american tried to tip her dollars several times, even though they were told that she could only accept Euros.

Apathy is a powerful tool for fascist regimes. The same happened in Italy and Germany back in the day

Yeah that was a weird chapter in the bible

Yup you’re right. That last part was more of an addendum for those that consider trying to find new forums.
Obviously, the voting system is only one part of the story. It by itself won’t dictate if a community will be healthy or toxic; other things like the community culture and mods will have a heavier impact. But in my experience, in all the places I’ve been in, the voting system is one of the ingredients that does have an effect on the cake overall.

Sometimes it even triggers an honest discussion.
In my experience, that’s what tends to happen in more traditional forums.
Voting systems are great for threads where the discussions is about problem with an objective solution, but for more subjective topics it just kills discussions.
I recommend anyone that used to be a lot on Reddit, here on Lemmy and/or other forums with karma systems to try out forums without them. Trust me you’ll notice the difference.
Niche forums with small communities tend to be best, and a lot less toxic.

Iirc, Liverpool had a health crisis due the expansion of the city during the industrial revolution. A lot of streets were very narrow, making it very difficult to clean up waste and provide access to firemans.
If a street was too narrow, they actually would demolish one of the buildings to make space
Edit: or buildings in plural now that I think about it. You couldn’t just demolish one of them if they are so close

He didn’t say thank you

In their observations and interviews with employees of the 200-person company, the researchers found that generative AI didn’t free up time—it expanded what workers felt capable of, and willing, to take on.
The title is either poorly thought out, or bait lol
TL;DR: the study says that AI doesn’t save time, but it intensifies work because the people using it feel more confident in tackling more things (that’s my interpretation after skimming it)

Better specs sure, but I would sooner cut my wrists than to try to work on an iOS device

Insert here the meme “some of you may die, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make”
Arch isn’t necessarily unstable or “dreadful”. It’s a distro that requires the user to know what they’re doing and to be a tinkerer by nature. Whether this is a feature or a downside is dependent on the user.
But I agree with you, recommending an Arch based distro to someone who is not a tinkerer and just wants to use the PC - which is the vast majority of PC users - is a mistake.
PS: I use EndeavourOS btw
