11 months agoWhat exactly are you basing Erico being top 10 on? He didn’t do anything on the world stage, never played significantly well outside of Argentina and unless you’re Paraguayan or Argentinian of very advanced years he wouldn’t come into your consideration of top 100 let alone top 10 of all time. I’ll give you he was the top scorer of all time in the Argentinian league (back in a time when there were a lot more goals in game), and di stefano said he was the greatest of all time (a lot less competition for that title before Di stefano started playing). So why does he deserve to be there?
Put simply more games. To show the level of this look at the Wikipedia article on players with over 100 caps, now look at date of last cap as you scroll down the list, at a guess I’d say only maybe 1 in 10 of those is before 2000. Goals per game maybe roughly similar across the top strikers of all generations, but simply less internationals mean less goals
