  • The Eternals was the first Marvel film that I just completely didn’t care for, and then they followed it up with a weak Doctor Strange, a weak Black Panther, a weak Ant Man, a weak Thor, and a bunch of other bad movies. Guardians 3, Spider-Man 3 (even though it was Sony), and Deadpool were all pretty good, and I thought WandaVision and Loki were great. Other than that it’s been pretty bad.

I was hoping this little break they’ve had broken by Deadpool would breathe new life into the franchise, but it looks like that isn’t going to be the case.

  • But I still love the Ballista.

I’ve made several over the years for demonstrations using a couple 2x4s, 2 oak dowels, a steel rod, and nylon rope that’ll hurl a “bolt” (tube used to separate clubs in a golf bag with a tennis ball on one end) 400 yards.

    They’re just fun.

  • The GOP is gonna GOP.Blaming the enemy for being the enemy doesn’t change their behavior. Anyway - they’re a minority and should be easy to stop. Since the 90s, they’ve received a majority of the popular vote 1 time.

But they’ve managed to hold the White House for 14 years in that same time period and have gerrymandered the shit out of the Congressional map. Texas had a majority Democratic delegation to the US House from the Civil War until 2005.

Hiw have they achieved so much? Easy - they’re organized and put forth a unified front while the rest of us flail about chasing perfection, sabotaging and resistance, and get crushed.

Asking the GOP to stop winning is dumb. That’s their goal, and I can’t really expect them to not try and win. What I can expect is for those who oppose their policies to get their heads out of their asses and vote for the people who can stop the GOP. We can work on making the Dems better later.

Right now we’re being stabbed to death by the GOP, and instead of fighting that third-party voters are focusing on a hangnail.

  • The purpose of a day off for election day is to get people to vote. Tying it to a requirement to actually vote (not even necessarily on the same day) gives an incentive to vote instead of just another day off.

They should be getting an extra month of vacation time in general, absolutely, but that has nothing to do with incentivizing voting.

I got extra time off work for having a Covid vaccination. Since I was getting vaccinated anyway, it was just more time off just like a voting day would be. But for some people, the extra time off was enough incentive to get them to go to Walgreens and get a shot. If they’d just given everybody extra time off for Covid vaccinations without us having to prove that we did it, then those who weren’t planning to get the shot still wouldn’t have. And the point was to get people vaccinated for public health.

  • This isn’t about making sure businesses make more money. It’s about incentivizing people to vote.

My business gave extra time off to people who got Covid vaccines because it incentivizes people to do something that’s good for them and for society. For people who were already getting the vaccines it was a bonus day, and it gave the push for people on the fence.

It should be the same with voting. The reality is most people do have the opportunity to vote, but choose not to take the time to do it. An extra holiday won’t change that.

Giving them an extra day off no-strings attached is a good thing. They should get an extra month. But if we are specifically trying to get people to vote, then that particular day off should come with strings just like my vaccine day.

  • I’m saying that Nader, knowing full-well he has zero chance of winning, intentionally ran a campaign that could do nothing but harm Al Gore’s campaign and help the GOP.

The Green party did now fandango to the environment in that campaign than can ever be offset by them. They’re an environmentalist party that doomed the planet of of arrogance, stupidity, or duplicity, and I don’t care which. I blame them and anyone who voted for them for the current state of the world that they enabled with their irresponsibility.

Evil people are gonna try to be evil. When there’s an enemy at the gates we need to put aside our minor differences and work together to defeat them, not stab the other guards and let the city get overrun.
