  • I started when I was around 15 in 2002.

    I built a NAS with Slackware out of an old PC. Then came more, and more, and more. I built NASes for other people. I upgraded hardware, made mistakes, tried other software, learned a lot.

    20 years later, here I am.

    Data hoarding isn’t about how much storage you have or what kind of server(s), it’s about the thirst to accumulate data and, hopefully, do something interesting with it. A raspberry pi with an SSD over USB is just as valid as me, using a cluster distributed filesystem over 4 commodity servers in my home lab.

    My only recommendation is to properly back up anything you would miss (even if it’s just a little) because losing irreplaceable data is really sad and that’s a situation I hope everyone can avoid.
