You can install maliit but it will pull in the entire qt5 kf5 bloat.

Maliit is being replaced by plasma-keyboard which is supposed to be released with Plasma 6.6

Gimp supports wayland, Krita doesnt. So not at all.

Also plugin support is better with gimp afaik.

Plasma-keyboard is essential for anyone on a convertible or even tablet, as the old maliit keyboard is abandonware

Ocr support in spectacle! This exists on proprietary android but not AOSP, and on windows too. Really neat. I hope the integration is nice, this is a really big UI task.

I listened to the Tech over Tea episode with the GNOME guy about their new systemd dependence. Any regular distro uses systemd, everything is free software.

Nobody is forcing anything.

KDE is building new tech, streamlined, minimal, performant. And yeah that uses systemd.

But if people want to generalize components so they can work on OpenRC or worse init systems, I highly doubt that they will block it.

Or that they will block launching startplasma-wayland from any other login manager, which currently already works. This is just their login manager, with way more features that are crucial for making it a windows competitor, like headless RDP support.

Did you know that Debian uses systemd but neither systemd-boot nor systemd-resolved? So you have an extremely shitty and slow boot and no DNS-over-TLS support. Amazing.
