  • I just fixed this problem today on my 3. Recently had my windshield replaced and the Safelite techs didn’t align the arms right when they reinstalled. Found out the hard way yesterday on a 4 hour drive in the rain.

There is a cap over the pivot of the arm which is easy to pop off. You’ll need a socket wrench to remove the nut holding the arm to the spline (mine was 14mm). Once the nut is removed you can pull the arm off the spline shaft and put it back on. The wiper blade should be as close to the cladding at the base of the windshield as possible while still being comfortably on the glass. Reinstall the nut and snug it up. Put the wipers in maintenance mode (process in your owner’s manual if you’ve never done this) When the driver’s side wiper is vertical it should be parallel to the A pillar.

Also make sure when the wipers are down that the ends of the blades where they point towards each other are aligned. You may need to perform the same adjustment on the passenger side wiper for them to match.
