'Scept they’re already clearcutting most of WA/OR to be able to cram in endless 5-over-1s to house all the new people, and even then there’s an unbelievable housing crisis. That’s on top of the incredible lack of employment and the crushingly overburdened public services… Plus anywhere decent in those states is going to be the highest cost of living in the country, if not (depending on the metric) the world.

Moving isn’t cheap and easy, and the popularity of the queer migration to the coast is a huge problem right now. Personally I volunteer with several charities that do housing assistance/placement for queer & disabled folks and waiting lists over the past year and a half have ballooned to more than a thousand times more applicants than we have resources to support. There’s just so, so many more people who want to come here than there is the ability to support.

It’s called auditing a class, pretty much every university has a mechanism for this. Otherwise though you’d get caught pretty quick when it turns out I don’t have a record of you. In some 600+ person weedout class you wouldn’t, but any smaller group lecture you’d get noticed on the 1st day when taking roll for waitlist placement.

Pretty much every shooting sport (excluding poundage-categorized archery because of draw weights), at very least.

Losing 1/5 of your range isn’t exactly a slight reduction. When the topic is “this logistical aspect is underdiscussed” downplaying its importance is somewhat unhelpful, but I do appreciate the sentiment here.

(ah, you edited in the second paragraph - upkeep is lower yes, obviously gas is more expensive than electricity as a fuel, but afaik wear on breaks actually tends to be higher given the increased weight of EVs. This has little to do with the practical longevity of the vehicle, however.)

Nah this is the biggest marketing win they could get. Access remains to the biggest commercial market, but with an official government stamp confirming that it’s Too Good™ ? Absolute win.

I’m planning to get an EV (when I can afford one, who on earth can afford to buy new cars??) but my biggest concern is with battery degradation - it’s improved a bunch, but you’re still looking at 80-85% capacity after 8 years with gentle use - which if the car already just barely has the range I need… nngh. It really doesn’t get talked about and it’s such a huge part of the logistics you need to consider when getting an EV.
