1·9 hours agoOn top of that, I don’t think the average Italian would get the implication that “olive garden is better” from that phrase. They would understand it literally: this is not olive garden, this is Don Pasquale.

1·11 hours agoThat’s table stakes in the US unfortunately. There’s no option for “no genocide”, you need a complete reform of the electoral system (basically anything newer than 18th century will do) and then some new political parties. But since that is wishful thinking at the moment, the lesser of two evils will do.

11·2 days agoAmerican style health insurance is a scam. I pay around 600 euros a month in Germany, for me and two kids, and there’s no such thing as “copay”. Delivering a baby costed us about 8 euros in parking fees. This is a private company offering insurance, there’s no single payer in Germany. Other European and Asian countries do have single payer, with similar costs (the contribution is then a tax instead of insurance payment). It’s the American “five yachts per CEO” model that causes problems.

If Q as in Queue bothers you, you better check what C stands for.
Same for D. And Y. And W.
Yes, muscovites just made friends, that’s not imperialism. Sakha just wanted to give it’s oil and minerals to Moscow. Yakutia just wanted desperately to learn Russian. It’s not imperialism if there are no boats involved!
Estonia? Now their GDP per capita is not 20% higher, it’s 200% higher than Russia. Yes, triple as high. Obviously Russia was robbing them blind, and holding them back. Same as most other republics and Warsaw pact nations. GDP explosions after ditching the red parasite.
Ukraine had borders just fine when Soviets invaded them. If not for the war they lost against Poland in 1920 they would have kept invading and repressing nations. Belorussian language is almost extinct nowadays after all the russification. Same for Ukrainian in Eastern Ukraine.
French killed 1 million Algerians? Rookie numbers, they should have learned from the holodomor.
My point is: it’s not technically correct, it’s just plain correct. Plenty of people I know go for cycling tours of Europe, packing food and sleeping in tents. Some do two weeks hiking.
Travel is not only flying to the other end of the world and eating fancy food cooked for you by hired chefs… you can travel basically free if you adjust your expectations.
You can travel by hitchhiking (free), walking (free), cycling (one bike costs) or even by volunteering on a ship (you might even earn money). You can sleep in a tent or couchsurfing or on said ship.
Everybody immediately goes to restaurants, transcontinental flights and hotels, of course you need money for that, but that’s exactly not the point.
