1 year agoGood way to save money is just always youtube whatever service is recommended. Seems within your skills? Go for it. Sound hard? Let the professionals.
That said, engine air filter is a must and you should do yourself. 30 seconds, 15 bucks. Wiper blades, if needed. 5 minutes, 20-30 bucks. Cabin air filter, not critical and can somewhat be a pain depending on the car. But very DIY friendly usually. Brake fluid and CVT fluid: Read your owner’s manual and see the reccomened interval. If your car has it due, DO IT. If your fluid is good, you could pass temporarily on the Brake fluid. DO NOT PASS ON CVT FLUID. CVTs need very rigorous fluid changes, right on time. Dont delay that.
This is one of the key talking points of the CVTs currently. According to Subaru, your transmission has “lifetime” CVT fluid. The catch is that they expect the transmission to die at 100k miles- thats its lifetime.
A CVT that calls for fluid changes is FAR more likely to last much longer than any with life time fluid.
