So after watching the whole game of ars v Man U 97 I’m completely fucked off about the ref quality now even though the ref missed what was 99% with modern rules a Man U pen. Even fergie wasn’t that arsed about it in his post match. I think that shows the difference in understanding refs on field getting things wrong vs refs with cameras that should never get something wrong. You can be annoyed but accept on field refs making mistakes but VAR making mistakes is completely unacceptable and that’s why we are all angrier with the decisions now. Also of note is that refs back then did give free kicks for proper shoves even if the bar for a yellow or red was higher. This leads on to refs also having more control over which slide challenges were just created bract or actually dangerous. Old refs were soooooo much better at discerning the two.
