Meteor Lake is promising 50% more efficiency for the same level of performance as 13th gen. That should more than bring the laptop efficiency fight back to AMD. I’m not sure about the 2 times, they would usually have a few hours more, unless you mean the H series under load or something.

This sounds like a circular way to do what RAM caching is already supposed to do haha, all modern operating systems do this already, used to call it Superfetch but now it’s just commonplace and assumed, as well as not dumping things you close out of RAM immediately in case some parts of it get reused

Super excited for someone to make a good fanless competitor to the Macbook Air. Looks like this should well be able to do it and Intel is even hyping up performance per watt leadership by then.
The metal shell is also said to be part of a better thermal system in the 16, and it’s actually the battery and the OLED that are the temperature limiting components in a smartphone rather than the SoC.
They’re probably looking at it and trying, but it’ll take years to ramp it up to where ARM is, it’s the decades of toolchains and support and libraries around ARM and x86 that are sticky.
At first I thought the goal of chip sanctions on China was to bring them to the negotiating table, negotiate out fair play and go on our way.
But if instead it keeps going the way it’s going, I wonder if 20 years from now we’re sitting in a split world, where the west has one set of ISAs, fabrication plants etc, and China has another which don’t communicate with each other, since China can’t use any new ARM extensions and eventually all of ARMv9 will be deprecated too.
I know it’s harder to get past about 5nm without EUV machines, but I wouldn’t really doubt that China putting a national effort into it could eventually get there, even if it puts them some years back for now.

Windows got even snappier after I ran I think it was the LeDragoX Win Debloat tool, turned off all the telemetry and bing in the start menu stuff that made simple search slower by adding in networking, and turned on the visual performance profile.
Miles and miles away from the default macOS “look how smooooth I am” animation now, pretty much as fast as I go. I also set the animation times for macOS all the way down, but some are just in different places.
