What a surprise, another self-proclaimed “libertarian” that coincidentally doesn’t believe in personal sovereignty.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Opinion: Dictators are pleased to watch Canada and the U.S. slug it outEnglish
192·3 days agoAgain, I reiterate.
Who is irrationally increasing the cost of living across the globe, specifically with gas prices?
Who else is committing human rights violations, domestically and abroad, and is actively backing those abuses in other countries?
Also that’s specifically for pea starch, whole peas and other pea products are still good to go, that’s far from going back completely on their word, which a certain other country has done countless times.
Pea sales to China strong despite new starch tariff
If I’m taking anybody’s word, it’s the president of Pulse Canada.

262·3 days ago“Yeah, the person I’m married to threatens me, punishes me, insults me, and doesn’t value my consent, but it’s better than what the other person could be”
Literal battered woman syndrome. Look, I don’t like China or want more trade with them either, but can we please stop pretending doing business with them will be worse than doing business with the U.S.? One keeps their issues much more domestic than the other? I don’t see China raising world oil prices by bombing Iran, raising my cost of living with absurd tariffs, or going back on their word.
We struck a deal with them, and they removed duties for our canola, crab, peas, and lobster for us letting in their EVs, which opens us up for job creation should they bring manufacturing operations here. In turn, we were made exempt from visa requirements to travel to China. I can see the benefits of that deal because they up the income of our farmers and fishers, open up job potential, and make travelling across the world easier for us.
That is how you strike a deal. They are reliable, the U.S. is not, plain and simple. If this guy’s opinion is that China wants less democracy in the world, then I’d like to point to the amount of dictators America backs and has instated. Let’s stop pretending that only one pulls that crap when they both do.
Leave it to an American to come here, express sorrow to us, and then expect grace from us when all they do is type a sentence in a community that isn’t targeted for them.
I’m sick of Americans coming into other communities, getting on their soap box, and then saying the bare minimum to expect praise. People have stereotypes about us saying sorry all the time, but online all it ever seems to be is self-deprecating Americans coming into communities of other countries saying “sorry we’re like this…” and “I’m sorry for being American”
If you truly cared you wouldn’t be here begging for internet points in a performative confessional, get out and do something, showcase it, and then maybe you get a pass because ten years of this crap in varying degrees has gotten extremely tiring.

All while our social safety nets are being cut, all while Carney and the Liberals do nothing to defend public healthcare with the Canada Health Act, and all in the midst of both an opioid and affordability crisis.
Glad to know we have our priorities straight…

521·4 days agoThen just call him a pedophile and don’t minimise the effects of the crime by making it lighthearted enough for Joe Schmoe to joke about at a dinner table thinking they’re funny.
Like tell me how repeatedly saying “grab 'er by the pussy” worked out as a joke. It did jack. People seem to be thinking this is some big protest movement when all it is is keyboard warrior stuff that doesn’t get anything done, and I honestly I hate saying that because I ideologically agree with anybody who says that.
At a point it just feels like there’s a reversal of the initial intent where it unintentionally starts normalising jokes about sexual assault.

Your company is great, let me support youuuuu

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canadian prime minister suspends trade talks with U.S., setting new 50% tariffs in motionEnglish
9·9 days agoYou can’t really do anything diplomatic when the other side continually showcases they lack any respect for diplomacy whatsoever.
The moment the man in charge literally called himself an idiot when asking who’d ever sign a deal like CUSMA, it was an admission that they don’t care. We got hit with tariffs for reasons that weren’t based on facts. We got rid of the digital services tax as a concession already. We already had the CRTC roll back a decision to triple financial contributions to Canadian content from online streaming services. Then came the Gordie Howe Bridge dispute where we made concessions for tolls on a bridge we paid for. We were going to concede even more with the removal of alcohol bans.
Yet, it’s just now that Carney and the Liberals realise that this isn’t worth it? Any progressive in this country could have told you this from the get go.

Colour me shocked. Glad to know we wasted so much time trying to negotiate with what may as well be a bunch of shit-flinging apes when we could have been putting more focus in more deals with the EU, establishing CANZUK, and literally any other endeavour that doesn’t include the U.S…

LoseIt: Lose the Fat@discuss.tchncs.de•How do I balance out my diet with preventing food waste?English
3·19 days agoGenuinely not an excuse. It just hurts knowing it’ll all be thrown away and it feels like you have to do something about it.
I do think changing my mindset to “it’s wasted just as much if I eat it when I don’t need it” and “I’m treating myself as a waste bin if I eat this when I don’t need it” will really help going forward for the diet seeing that responsibility of eating is shifted from me. However, now it’s just a matter of how to get it to people that do need it when it comes to my social conscience.
In summary, I try to get it to people, and if I can’t, I need to accept it’ll be thrown out and that it isn’t my fault if that happens. I’ll be getting in touch with the organisation that runs the event and see what can be done about this going forward.

Wow, Putin invading Canada.
Totally real threat that will totally happen in the real world.
People are going to find it hard to care about defending the country if you don’t provide them with the basics to live, just saying.
