Matt_NZ@alien.topBtoHomelab@selfhosted.forum•Why is Windows (desktop versions) frowned upon as a home NAS/server OS?English

1 year agoI’ve run a Windows based home lab for around 10 years now. I use Windows Server as the OS tho and I use it as a Hyper-V server.
I do have a couple of Linux VMs running for things like Home Assistant, Frigate and TeslaMate, but everything else is in a Windows VM - specifically a Server Core VM.
Hyper-V itself is pretty capable when compared to the other options as well. Some of my VMs have PCI cards passed to them via DDA and I recently set up GPU partitioning to share a GTX 1650 between some of those Windows and Linux VMs
The Skyline has always been a sedan and recently, a cross over. Up until the late 80s it was sold as such in New Zealand and Japan before it was discontinued in those regions - our family car for a while was a 1988 Skyline TI. It kept on going in Japan though, with the more recent Skyline models being known as the Infiniti G35/37 in the States. Since New Zealand imports a lot of used Japanese vehicles, I had a four door 2012 Skyline GT (AWD variant) until I replaced it with a Model 3.
I think when those in the US hear “Skyline” they think of the GTR, which was always the performance variant of the Skyline range.
