Work Reform@lemmy.world•this is so dark, Black Mirror couldn’t have imagined it
19·4 days agoI was considering it like 10 years ago when you couldn’t go anywhere on the internet without someone telling you “Programmers make a bajillion dollars pr day, even the bad ones! You should become a programmer!!!”, but I figured it was just companies wanting more applicants to force down the pay.

3·4 days agoMost car updates are done through mobile network now. Mine has “over the air updates” which is just a dumb way of saying 5g… Before that, they’d be updated during service as the mechanic. I’ve never heard about a car being connected to your home wifi to update, since that would be practically impossible for most renters.

1·5 days agoNo one has said it’s free. I however have said that running it through taxes with no private doctors or insurance makes it a hell of a lot cheaper, because you cut out a lot of greedy business people whose whole purpose in life is to deny you care.

1·6 days agoYour taxes. In no other country does the procedure actually cost 20k. It’s been inflated to ridiculous amounts by the doctors because the insurance pays it.

8·6 days agoI seem to remember a lot of talk before the 4000 series came out, that they were going to switch to a different cable, because the current standards weren’t good enough with the current power needs or something like that. What happened to that? Was it all just rumors?
I had that happen. App said it’d be about 30 minutes for delivery. 2 hours later and a lot of chatting with “support” the driver finally came with a cold and wrong order. That was the last time I used a delivery app. We used to have some decent ones, but as with everything else it has turned to shit. Now it’s easier, faster and cheaper to just pick it up myself.

2·6 days agoI’m still not seeing why the extra step of a for profit insurance company is ever needed? All it does is raise prices and make life harder for the people in need. Get rid of it, and your money is spent much more directly without someone denying you medical care because they see you as an expense.
It’s also important to note that my doctor doesn’t charge my government for anything. They’re employed directly by the government, which means the government is determining what the cost of a procedure is, instead of the doctor. This lowers the price because you cut out another for profit middleman.
This also means my government has that same person with medical knowledge to determine wether or not a procedure is actually necrssary that you’re requesting. The same doctor you visited.
Medical insurance companies and privately owned medical care is ALL just unecessary middlemen that make your life worse. They’re not needed, and needs to be removed entirely.

Technology@lemmy.world•Woman Calls Out Doctor Wearing Smart Glasses During Consultation Where She Had To Take Off Her Clothes: 'They Need To Be Banned'English
16·7 days agoDepends on the debate. The government can’t stop them from debating. If you host a debate though, without any government affiliation, you’re not forced to let them attend. In the same way, if you own a forum on the internet, you can silence anyone you want to. The literal ONLY thing the first amendment protects against, is government persecution for speech. It has nothing whatsoever to do with how people react to said speech. Just because someone cries “Muh first amendment!” doesn’t mean you actually have to respect them. You can shame them, silence them, ostracise them. Put up billboards telling people how fucking insane they are. Take out an ad in the local newspaper to display their bullshit in an attempt to shame them into submission, tell them to go fuck themselves. If they’re in your house, you can toss them out. YOU can do whatever you want. YOU can’t breach the first amendment, only the government can.

36·7 days agoFirst amendment only protects you from being persecuted by the government. Being ostracized, shamed and unfortunately attacked in the middle of the night by anonomous people isn’t against the first amendment.

Both Mariam Webster and Cambridge defines it as trying to overthrow the government. That’s what was attempted in jan 6.
I’m tempted to just straight up use AI without proofreading next time I’m in need of a job. If anything, just to see wether or not it works. Judging by a quick 2 minute look at Linkedin, it must be what they want.

4·8 days agoI use Emby. It’s set up so I can use it when I’m on vacation through a domain.
I mostly use Emby because I can get their app on my tv. It just seems easier than whatever Jellyfin has.
On my Emby server I can make accounts, give those accounts passwords or reset the passwords. People can also choose a 4 number pin so they don’t have to write a password whenever they need to login.
I don’t really know anything about the stuff you described in your setup, but I don’t imagine it’s different from any other setup.

They’d also get a much smaller NATO. I know we can’t count on USA right now as an ally, but that can still change within the next few decades. But weakening NATO that much would be the world’s biggest gift to Putin and Russia.
With peace he’d rebuild and try again in a decade, but with your proposal, without having to worry about the 50/50 chance of USA being with him or against him.
