Salford definitely have fans that solely support them. They existed for many years before the investment from former United players. Despite an obvious increase in attendances since the involvement from Gary Neville etc., I think it would be unfair to ignore the fact that there will be Salford fans who have supported the club since they were much further down the pyramid, and probably funded the clubs survival at times.
Governing bodies would have you believe that FFP is there to protect clubs against their own financial mismanagement so they don’t go bankrupt, but this decision shows what it’s really there for.
In what way does giving an already financially struggling team a points deduction (that makes them more likely to be relegated) make the club less likely to go under?
