Thank you Stamets - I like your honestly and I have taught that lesson too! I tell you what would really help me more - if you wouldn’t mind sharing the games you have developed or the types of games you like playing! I’m guessing if it’s more action/scifi, then JuryNow might not appeal? (not necessarily mutually exclusive, but possibly a different gendre!!)

oh! I’m sorry you say that because I genuinely want to hear every word of feedback! I have had the idea fo 16 years and only just worked out how to build an app with no code in the past year…It’s taken me forever to produce it, so i really do want to hear your thoughts! That’s the last thing I want!! Now you have played, and assuming it was a live jury of 12 judging your question - whether it’s what shirt to wear, or whether to take a 6 month job in Antarctica (my nephew took a 2.5yr one!!) would you be less let down? Hello Slippy, Thanks so much for playing! It’s super exciting to see feedback and I’m really grateful you took time to come back to Lemmy & let me know what you think! I think Lemmy & sites like Reddit are amazing and revolutionary for that debate, discussion open conversation type of situation they create. So if it’s a peer group conversation you want whether it’s office attire, family row, political debate…that is where you would go. JuryNow is more about a very diverse group of 12 people from Guatemala, Germany, Gambia, Georgia who are made up of all ages, cultures, professions, giving you a verdict that is pure unadulterated wisdom! The more diverse the jury, the better the verdict! And so while the JuryDuty can feel la bit like a chore, the part where you get your verdict from 12 real people is exciting if it’s your own quesiton, and you know that 12 people have just considered it! Well this is what I hope and when lots of people are playing online simultatneously and all the juries are live, it works! But I’m learning that the negative feedback is a load more valuable in some ways! REally appreciate it!

hello there Barry, thank you so much for playing firstly! You never get to see other player’s verdicts for a few reasons…no confirmation bias, it keeps it’s anonymous, and - when I launch the proper version - it will be one free play per day so it keeps it more of a daily ritual, rather than playing too many loops (this is because empathy & objectivity decline after a while!) But THANK YOu for the feedback. I’m also thinking of having a feature where you can opt to share your question and verdict, and you can opt to ask for it. Do you think that would work too? (lots of people have asked this, including my chronically curious bf!)

Some recent examples on JuryNow to help you get started: Is immigration good for the economy? Yes/No, Is it bad to be honest with people and tell them that children born now are likely to have a terrible life growing up because of global warming? Yes/No My boyfriend say my sneezes are too loud and annoy him and i need to supress them. it’s true they are loud, but i have hayfever and it’s painful to keep them in. Supress/Don’t supress Do you avoid walking under ladders even if it means being quite obvious and superstitious? Silly superstition/Avoid ladders My brother is struggling to graduate college - and I helped him get through and pass his senior year courses. He got into grad school, and I’m worried he will be leaning on me again. tell him not to go to Grad School/tell him I won’t help Someone keeps ripping down my LGBTQ activism stickers off of lightposts. Is this a game? Seems more like a polling platform. Where’s the fun? Fair question (my daugthter insists it’s not a game because there are no winners). It looks like a polling tool, but under the hood it’s built like a social game and the fun comes from speed, unpredictability, and reciprocity. And knowing that at that moment 12 people are looking at your question and answering it.

You’re not just answering polls. You’re put on the spot with weird, intimate, or absurd questions (and you only have a few seconds to vote). While you wait for your own answer, you’re doing Jury Duty which is rapid-fire judgments with no do-overs or explanations. It becomes this mini adrenaline rush, a little like Cards Against Humanity or Wavelength, but stripped down to just decisions.

The “game” is in the tension, the randomness, and the psychology. And that moment when your verdict pops up , knowing 12 total strangers just decided your issue , it weirdly scratches the same itch as multiplayer games or party rounds.

It’s not for everyone, but some people get hooked fast! Anywya, a bit THANK YOU for playing!

Hey all appreciate the honest response here, even if it’s critical. Just wanted to say this was made by one person (me) over 16 years of work. I really see it as a game about empathy, impulse, and group psychology rather than a startup or AI thing. I thought it might resonate with people who enjoy fast, social games with unusual mechanics. But if this isn’t the right place, totally understand. Thanks for taking a look anyway 🙏

It’s the anonymous private part of JuryNow in that your verdict is your private property! BUT…I’m thinking of launching a ‘Share My Question & Verdict’ and then sharing the unanimous verdicts, and ‘Question of the Day’ for people that are happy to share.

Hey! Just adding a quick follow-up: If there are less than 13 people playing, your verdict will be simulated …that’s because as an MVP it has to demonstrate the functionality, but this is only a temporrary feature and as soon as there are regular players across different time zones, it will be permanently dismantled, as JuryNow is intended as an antidote to AI!

If anyone’s curious I’m especially looking for feedback on the gameplay loop:

Does Jury Duty feel intuitive or confusing at first? Is the 3-minute answer phase fun or stressful? Would you play again without needing to ask a question?

JuryNow is not open-source or self-hostable, and won’t be.

This is a personal project I’ve developed over many years (16), and I’m still shaping where it goes. I shared it here because it’s lightweight, browser-based, and real-time and not because it’s federated or designed for open deployment.

I fully respect the open/self-hosting ethos but this is NOT that, and I’d like to be upfront about it.
