Thank you for that detail

Thanks for the explanation. Is a second space a space you’re obligated to be, like work/school, or just anywhere you spend most of your time regardless?

I would argue that similar tech in our lives causes similar issues. We don’t write things down anymore - just scroll on, with a fragmented mish-mash memory of what we’ve seen. Some capacity for retention gets exhausted in a given day. Just what I’ve observed in myself or among friends/family.

I haven’t listened yet but I’m subscribed, so I will. Just to say that this guy is great. Gary Stephen’s.

Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (aka Tommy Robinson) is funded by US tech billionaire Robert Shillman.

The tech industry at large is fascist, I would say https://fed.brid.gy/r/https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:waplkqr2wuy2c4qbge6h6ed4/post/3mnult3hv4c2d

Place your bets everyone, which way do you think this will go?
Canada doesn’t pass the surveillance law
The law passes and some/all of Signal/DDG/NordVPN remain anyway
The law passes and they exit Canada
(something else)

Why are we so bad at dealing with foreign interference, and our own citizens who collude?

The treaties are broken, purposely, and serve to keep First Nations people under the boot. Trudeau also denied there is structural racism problem in Canada, while the RCMP were harassing First Nation peoples over fishing quotas (this is a few years ago now). Can’t imagine Carney being any better.

Canada has no legitimate rule over nor ownership of First Nation people. It is not Canada’s place to say “mind your own business”.

As usual, the EU and Canada are talking over the heads of First Nations people. These are the first people who should be asked. Also, dear Canadians, please read this book to become a better settler:

As someone else mentioned[1] on Mastodon, open source is under threat due to AI - which the EU is also implementing[2].

Oh dear. It appears that whatever grooming operation the media companies are facilitating there is working.
I assumed this was available on https://www.watermelonpictures.com/films but it doesn’t seem to be there. I hope it makes it to other platforms.

I know what you mean. My music collection has shrunk a bit recently for similar reasons!

We have proportional representation in our country. Specifically, it’s PR-STV (all implementations are not equal). It’s widely credited for keeping imported culture wars and hysterics at a lower level than other countries in the EU.
It’s not a silver bullet, but I would be afraid for any country that stays with FPTP in the the days of the dark-money-to-dark-algorithm pipeline were all witnessing.

I’m not British, but from the outside it seems the meeting could give an unpopular Starmer a saviour story he desperately needs, and an ID-based system would let big tech have its way with citizens: the algorithms tearing our societies apart remain unchallenged and profitable.

Absolutely. Here’s an example from the journal.ie:
TÁ MÓRAMH AR son na Gaeilge ó thuaidh is ó dheas, de réir suirbhé nua uile oileánda a foilsíodh inniu – agus tá móramh freisin ag éileamh go ndéanfadh an Rialtas i mBaile Átha Cliath agus an Feidhmeannas Roinnte Cumhachta i mBéal Feirste níos mó chun oideachas trí mheán na Gaeilge.
Translates to this in English
A MAJORITY ON the island of Ireland – north and south – supports the Irish language, according to a new all-island survey published today, and there is also a majority calling on the Irish government and the Stormont Executive to do more to promote education through Irish.
As for the “I’m delicious” guy, just a health warning that he (unwittingly) parrots conspiracies about immigrants when he’s not making jokes.

Irish, aka Gaeilge.
I have so much respect for people who go beyond intention with their decency.
