[Dormant] moved to !tankiejerk@piefed.social@lemmy.world•MAOISTS AND STALINISTS ONLY IN MY GOOD TANKIE COMM
4·7 months agoMao is a joke to me. The above quote (which is his) goes on to say, “In present circumstances, revisionism is more pernicious than dogmatism.”
So…
Mao: Marxism is universally true. Also Mao: Dogmatic Marxism is bad. Also Mao: Anything post-Marxism is revisionism, which is also bad.
If you can get through it, read On Contradiction to see just how many back-flips he does to make Marx’s “dialectical materialism” into something that is neither dialectical nor material but a metaphysical fact of our world and all human progress (as if that’s not revisionism).
Who is the artist behind this work?
I hear people are doing such dishonest things as flooding the ICE Tip Form with false leads.
The fools. Hope they’ve got a VPN, or whatever it is they need to stay anonymous and untraceable.

4·10 months agoStill amazes me to this day that they were able to render such a faraway horse in 128-bit…
I think there was a ROM hack that solved this floating-point error. If I can find it, will post link.

2·10 months agoI appreciate it. I always thought Deezer was just a streaming platform like Spotify.
Also, dang, surprised so many downvotes for my original comment lol.

6·10 months agoI work part time as an audio producer. Converting MP3 to FLAC is like trying to upscale an image: you can use all the fancy algos to repair loss, but it’s still lossy.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•CEO of Song-Generating AI App Says People "Don't Enjoy" Making Music With Instruments
1·10 months agoThis is how I understand what you’re saying: Over here we have the “musicians,” a title reserved for only those who play an instrument. On the other hand we have the “producers,” who make music on a computer, without an “instrument.”
But I say both make human music. And a computer can be an instrument. Drawing notes in MIDI is not much different than composing in Musescore. The producer is not unlike the classical composer, and I say both are musicians. And in a discussion on AI music vs. human music, why should we make a false dichotomy within human music anyway? “All models are wrong, but some are useful,” said George E. P. Box, statistician.
I think people have taken you as arguing in bad faith. I, and I assume many others, would agree with you that Suno AI is bad. I think AI is ethically uncouth. But your original comment seems to be making a false equivalency between AI music and sampling. I think I understand what you mean better, but I still disagree with your premise and think it’s a weak argument for fighting AI.

4·10 months agoDude, you’re the one drawing the lines at who gets to call themselves a musician and who is just a “different kind” of artist. As an “akshul” musician, by your definition, I think you’re mistaken and parroting some reactionary takes.

311·11 months agoBoomer take. I’m a musician of two decades, got my degree in music. Sampling is as much an art and practice as playing a “traditional” instrument—I do both.
Are there lazy samplists? Sure, just as there are lazy guitarists. But watch this and tell me this isn’t musicianship. https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=sKMDP-vDsTU

196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•town that always catches on fire rule
9·11 months agoYes, and I live in LA. I’m a handful of blocks away from the evac warning perimeter. The message is not that budget cuts caused the fire. We who have lived here have seen the fires get worse every year because of climate change. The message is that our mayor’s tough-on-crime politics are to the detriment of public safety and our actual, material needs as Angelenos.

196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•the rule-ing class doesn't care about you
1·11 months agoWhoa nice, thanks for the advice. I’ll share it at the next city council. If you’re not aware, Los Angeles is literally on like 5 different fires right now. Given all the fires we’ve had here in LA in recent years, our mayor decided it was a good thing during an era of increasingly more frequent climate disasters to slash our fire budget to fund the cops.

196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•the rule-ing class doesn't care about you
401·11 months agoYes. That’s the hubris of capitalism. Climate disasters don’t discriminate based on class, but they are accelerated by the ruling class.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some (not illegal) ideas to make corporations feel the pain when they allow our data to be stolen?
171·11 months agoI think the most effective method is to do some sort of organized boycott. We all know well enough how sheisty these companies are. Time to start encouraging each other to quit them en masse.

I’m not enough of a Radiohead fan to understand this.
