Is it an interference engine? If that’s the case it means that when the timing is off enough the piston will contact the valves during the stroke and it could’ve just destroyed itself internally when it slipped. I had a 2001 Honda civic that jumped time and I just had to push the gas pedal when starting it lol. It may come down to that but I’m no expert
