Exactly, I knew this would get downvotes but I knew that nobody would give valid reasons to disprove what I said 😂

Maradona might be the most overrated player in the history of team sports. He was absolutely outstanding in the 1986 World Cup but his whole legacy is based on 7 games (where he had to cheat to win by punching the ball) & he doesnt have the stats, longevity, accolades or peak to be considered a GOAT candidate yet he’s seen as a consensus Top 4 player by most fans. A common narrative is that Maradona carried a weak Napoli team to the title when that isn’t really what happened. Maradona’s 1986/87 - Napoli’s First Title - 29 Matches 6 Non-Penalty Goals 4 Assists 0.34 npG+A. His teammate also finished second in the golden boot race. I am not denying the fact he was a World Class player in his prime with majestic technique and dribbling but it boggles my mind that many fans and players view him as one of the greatest players of all time if not the greatest player of all time and compare Maradona him to the likes of Pele, Messi and Ronaldo who were consistently out of this for a decade plus and produced alien like numbers season and season out when no good argument can be presented to support this.
I don’t even want Raheem Sitting in the squad because I think we have better alternatives in his position with the likes of Saka, Foden, Rashford & Grealish but I feel so bad for him. Kalvin Phillips & Harry Maguire still get picked for England even though their club form has been terrible or non existent for the last 2 years and the angle Southgate fans are using and I assume is Southgate’s thinking aswell is that they are his loyal soldiers, who’s done very well for him in the past and since the Euros is likely to be his last tournament, he wants to one last dance with his crew. The problem is that Sterling has been England’s best player for his entire tenure aside from Harry Kane and we all know how he powered England through the group stage at Euro 2020. How does he not get credit in the bank and get viewed by Southgate as one of his loyal soldiers when Kalvin Phillips and Harry Maguire get selected even though they barely play and are deemed surplus to requirements at club level ???
As a football fan, I’m really confused why I’m hearing so much talk about how the schedule is more congested than ever and players are at a breaking point. Since I started watching football 15 years ago, the schedule has been the same as it’s always been for the players in the Top 5 leagues, same cups, same UCL format with 4 international breaks every season and I major tournament every 2 years. Yet the for the last couple of years I’ve been hearing many coaches, players and fans going on about how their age too many games nowadays when the schedule is the same as it was 15 years ago. Also the new UCL and CWC format come into effect yet so I’m even more confused. And it’s usually big 6 coaches, fans and players that complain about the schedule like someone like they have the chance to rest their players and use the bench or academy players in cup games. Arteta doesn’t have to play Saka in the FA CUP and league cup if he genuinely cares about his fitness levels. Can somebody explain what I’m missing because I am very confused?
