We signed a striker to play in midfield and are now somehow surprised our midfield has stagnated/taken a step back over the summer
I think Arteta wanted more options there.
It’s easy to forget Zinny can play that position too if Timber was available. With Tomi’s form maybe that will happen.
Having the option to play Kai, Zinny, Rice or Vieira in that position objectively should give him as much flexibility as possible.
I think the real problem is not having Partey be able to string a run of games together.
If we’re playing Timber there’s no need for Zinchenko in a midfield spot. Hell I don’t think he should be playing there at all, he’s at his best when he can progress from deep.
That was his initial position before Pep made him into a fullback. He still plays it for Ukraine.
We aren’t playing international ball though. For Ukraine, I would hope they put their best players in midfield.
It’s not about if he can play there, it’s can he play there in our midfield for us, which has very different requirements
