Odegaard and Saka are both struggling a bit as that’s the side that the opposition crowd, specifically to hinder them.
The difference between this and last season is that our left side is disjointed still, so there’s no real outlet there in the old Xhaka position for the opposition to care too much about.
I’d like to see Odegaard drift a bit more across that area of the pitch between left and right to cause a bit of confusion and open the space up a bit more.
Maybe things will change if we’re able to consistently put out the front three we want to as Eddie doesn’t move about anywhere near as much as Jesus
I think more of a issue with the right side is Partey not playing in midfield.
He tends to pass to the right in-between lines whereas jorginho is more sideways and rice more to the left.
Possibly, but that’ll also be instruction as well. Potentially dictated by the congestion and what Arteta might see as an over reliance on that right side.
When White was out or in the middle with another right back, we couldn’t get things together down that side and everything else wasn’t up to the standard either, so maybe Arteta is putting more focus on the left to help counter that
Came to post the same idea about right vs left, but also: the evidence is clear that Martin prefers the right side, but what if he switched to the left more often? This is based on the idea that defenses are marking him out of the game – if there’s no space on the right, can he find that space on the left? Switch temporarily with Havertz, who should be getting on the end of balls instead of being the facilitator. We see Saka pop up on the left side sometimes, but I feel like that’s rarer with Odegaard.
It’s very possible that this is a stupid idea, so I’m very open to hearing why that is. (Or that they’ve already tried this and I missed it)
