Stepping into a true starter role for the first time in the league at age 28, Dominik Hasek entered the limelight in 1993, a time in which Patrick Roy was cementing himself as an NHL great and Martin Brodeur was already the next up-and-coming star goalie. Hasek wasn’t supposed to be in the starter’s net — a Grant Fuhr injury forced him into the position — but the Sabres’ goaltender forced his way into a permanent slot being the workhorse.

    This post just wants to start a fight. Hasek was definitely one of the most fun ever to watch, made probably some of the most spectacular, acrobatic saves, but an important factor that always needs to be taken into account is that combination of longevity and availability, two things he does not rate high in. And that’s fine, he was awesome, and maybe I’ll pick him over Brodeur in a series, but in a season or multiple seasons I think you have to go with Marty.

    And I say that as a Rangers fan who has been vocal about disliking Brodeur.
