If that’s the short answer I wonder what the long answer is.
Because they drafted him, so they can pay him the most. Case closed
I am erect. Loyalty doesn’t mean never pushing someone to improve, it means having trust that they’ll try their best, and giving them every opportunity to hold up their end of the partnership. Dirk was the same way. He didn’t go championship chasing. The organization ultimately failed to get him a second one but they had a symbiotic relationship for 20 years and it’s still going despite failures along the way.
CONFIRMED: Giannis asks for trade. ReAd bEtWeEn tHe lInEs!!
Listen to the words he’s NOT saying!
Hows that for a fucking answer. Thats a G - pun intended
He acts like the Bucks we’re the only team that wanted him just cause they drafted him. Does he know how many teams were trying to move up to acquire him?
He was the 15th pick lol
It’s not like every team wanted him that badly
I mean sure but they didn’t get him, the Bucks did. They helped him develop and have treated him well.
Well half the league passed on him in a draft that was labeled weak at the time.
It’s not that hard to acquire the 15th pick in the NBA. If a team really wanted them, they could’ve gotten him.
That’s a pretty fuckin good answer
“I’m a Milwaukee Buck, but most importantly I’m a winner… If there is a better situation for me to win the Larry O’Brien I have to take that better situation.”
Hmm…
Was that pre-Dame? I think he has been smart in playing the media game to a respectable degree, not going too hard but in the end he repaid all the investment by ownership by committing, and winning. He developed every single year of his life, showed up better and stronger every season, and ultimately brought home a Larry OB.
Lol they don’t want this receipt.
can we honestly say we have ever heard Giannis with an L in any presser? Dude is just a kind and intelligent human and it shows again and again.
Yup. He’s a good dude and I always love hearing him talk and respect the hell out of him until he’s throwing elbows in the paint and driving me nuts against the Celtics.
Great story about him and Milwaukee
Really I just want more offensive fouls called on him lol.
His failure one was very polarizing.
I don’t understand how someone listens to that and goes, “yeah, this guy’s talking bullshit”
its pretty simple
if you agree with his take you’re saying its impossible to fail at anything
Polarizing only to people who see our world in black and white
Even though it was polarizing, it was clear even from that presser that he’s a good dude and wants to protect the people around him.
Yeah, losing in the first round is “steps to success”? MJ didn’t win a ring every year? Come on now, that’s loser talk. Own up to the fact that you failed to meet expectations and that you have to work harder to get back to where you’re supposed to be.
I love when fans who’ve never done anything of note in their entire lives characterize guys playing in the most elite league in the world as using “loser talk.”
It’s such a profound, head-exploding lack of perspective.
So like every Nets year, own up to the failure.
Yes absolutely, if KD said that after choking in 2021 I would’ve been pissed off. If you’re supposed to win a ring and you fail, you should acknowledge that you failed and you should be pissed off. The response Giannis gave makes it seem like he’s comfortable with losing or just doesn’t care that much. There’s a time and place for finding the silver lining in losing, the press conference right after you lost isn’t the time or the place.
There’s a language barrier, he misquoted Kobe
He meant to say it WAS a failure but failure isn’t always bad
FTB, but I’ll definitely be sad when Giannis finally hangs ‘em up.
Not a presser but I’m sure the minimum wage employee who was just trying to do his job and take down the cameras didn’t appreciate Giannis throwing his ladder down
Damn Milwaukee is so lucky to have him
Shit man after this answer I feel like I need to get my ass to Milwaukee.
we are!
Everyone in Milwaukee knew his character halfway through his rookie year when he took a cab to Western Union and wired literally all of his money home to his family in Greece forgetting to leave himself enough money to get a cab ride to the stadium for the game that day. So, started running and was a mile or so down the sidewalk towards the stadium when a season ticket holder recognized him and gave him a ride the rest of the way. Season ticket holder also told a reporter I guess, or we would’ve never found out about this. Anyway, that one story tells you pretty much all you need to know about his character and loyalty.
I’m not sure why, but this reminds me of seeing Jonas Valanciunas when he played for the Raptors. I remember a picture going around of him showing up to nationals practice in a beat up 80s hatchback.
Man. Bucks got a real one in Giannas. Hope the dude balls in Milwaukee for a long long time.
Can’t hate him.
The fuck was the long version.
This man is incredible. So much heart. Great response!
This is the shit the talking heads never mention when talking about Giannis staying or leaving Milwaukee. His Milwaukee ties are DEEP. The former owner and Senator Herb Kohl helped get his family to the US. The bucks helped his family get his brothers into good schools. A former bucks staffer taught Giannis how to drive and Giannis would crash on his couch when he was lonely. I’m not saying the Bucks should hold these things over Giannis head, I’m saying these things really matter to Giannis and are definitely a factor in his decision making that the media never mentions. His relationship with the Bucks is different than every other stars relationship with their team
A former bucks staffer taught Giannis how to drive and Giannis would crash on his couch when he was lonely.
“We’re gonna need a bigger
boatsofa.”yea, Senator Herb Kohl had to call in a favor from then Secretary of State John Kerry to get Giannis into the US in the first place.
Is this true? Thats crazy lol
I don’t think any of these are things that only the Bucks would do. A lot of players build those relationships behind the scenes that we don’t hear about. Even KD in OKC probably still has connections to people there all these years later
To the people of OKC, KD is completely and totally dead to them. Russ on the other hand absolutely, he could come at any time and people would still love him. I’ve seen him in so many different places here, but there was never that vibe with KD. KD is a bit more loner vibes, Russ has always been super friendly to everyone he interacts with, and everyone respected him the way Giannis talks about.
I tell this story pretty often but I used to work in one of the biggest poker rooms in Oklahoma, Russ would frequent it pretty often, but the first time he came in he was like hoodie on, sunglasses, but it’s Westbrook, he’s a fucking massive dude, compared to the average 45 year old white poker player, he did this for like 3 days before some random guy at the table was like “bro we all know it’s you” and from that day forward he stopped with the incognito get up and nothing changed everyone treated him like normal. He knew all the dealers names and was super fucking nice.
of course other teams would do it, but not every player is going to value those efforts the same as giannis seems to.
What a legend.
This feels really heartwarming as a burned small market fan. Gives me hope.
I hope all of the love we show Giannis and the other players on this roster show that sometimes the smaller markets REALLY care when a player chooses them over a bigger/nicer city. Fr Giannis staying in MKE has built up the deer district itself and I think he realizes the opportunity he has to transform an entire city for the better.
We gonna give all the praises we have cuz it’ll probably be another 50 years before a superstar ends up in Wisconsin again
When were the thunder burned as a small market?
