(Posted for the whole Steering Council.) As we’ve announced before, the Steering Council has decided to accept PEP 703 (Making the Global Interpreter Lock Optional in CPython) . We want to make it clear why, and under what expectations we’re doing so. For me personally, whilst I’ll be very glad to see landmine-free multithreading, I don’t want world domination. Other languages exist for good reasons, and trying to adapt Python to fit into other languages shoes isn’t necessarily going to make it better.
