Yup, I hate it when players get abuse like that simply for being out of form. Maguire has never downed tools, never complained, always been professional and played when asked, just leave slabhead alone!
For me it was the combination of terrible form and him acting like he was playing great. I see no problem with fans criticizing a player when he’s not playing well, nor do a see a problem with those fans later singing that same player’s name when he’s turning it around.
The abuse was more than just boos though. Death threats towards him and his family and even a bomb threat at his house are more than just criticism

If everyone on the team had this man’s mentality we wouldn’t be half as shite as we are. He literally never lets his head dip, absolutely unbreakable.
Let’s not pretend that this isn’t pure revisionism. Maguire’s a consummate professional and never leaks his frustration but his play had been shocking prior to this, and that’s from his poor form and lack of anticipation on the ball. He’s not some mentality monster he just weathered the storm and kept his head down.
